PEERS POST:

Hello everyone,

Children base their understanding of the world on their environment and the people in it. Trusting their caregivers, family, and educators is essential to their emotional balance. Children are born with the instinct to bond with other humans that nurture their needs. Play is a natural way for children to learn how to be social. They learn how to take turns, care about other people's feelings, develop communication skills, and gain a sense of self-awareness.

The important developmental milestones for preschool children are self-awareness and relationship skills. Self-awareness is understanding one's emotions and behaviors and how they might affect others. Based on self-awareness, children can build relationships with others by understanding their feelings and behaviors.

My advice to Paul and Amy would be to get Charlie involved in many school activities to keep her interested in having relationships with other children her age. Children learn from one another; social interactions are important for children with no siblings to play and interact with. I would also encourage them to ask Charlie about her day at preschool, what she liked the most about it, and what she did not like so much.
