Getting Started

Because being prepared with the best possible interview questions will make it more likely that relevant information will be obtained, preparing questions well in advance is the best course of action in interviewing a criminal justice professional. 

Upon successful completion of this discussion, you will be able to:

· Identify a list of your best questions for your criminal justice professional interview in Workshop Five.

Background Information

In order to write an effective paper, an interviewer must carefully consider and prepare appropriate questions for the interview subject.  By thinking about the goals of the interview and designing questions well in advance, the interviewer is more likely to procure the desired information.

Instructions

1. Review the rubric to make sure you understand the criteria for earning your grade.

2. Review the article  Five Tips for Conducting Effective Qualitative Interviews .

3. Watch the video The Research Interview.

 

4. Watch the video Qualitative Research Interviews: Interview Techniques.

 

 

5. Respond to the following:

a. List and discuss your top five planned questions that you will ask your criminal justice professional to prepare for your final paper in Workshop Five.  Make sure to discuss the agency you have chosen and how your selection relates to your own future career plans.

6. Please defend your choice of questions and be substantive in your response.  It is expected that this initial posting be a minimum of two paragraphs (or 200 words) in length.

7. Your initial post is due by the end of the fourth day of the workshop.

8. Read and respond to at least two of your classmates’ postings, as well as all follow-up instructor questions directed to you, and post on two different days in this discussion, by the end of the workshop.  Feel free to utilize your classmates’ questions that you read here in your interview.
