Practice country research paper

Why isn’t “(your practice country)” developed? Instructions:

1. This paper aims to discuss the fundamental causes(s) of underdevelopment in your practice country.

To do so, you must be focused on the institutions in this country.

From Acemoglu and Robinson's Why Nations Fail: The Origins of Power, Prosperity, and Poverty that

“underdevelopment is caused by political institutions, not geography, climate, or other cultural factors. Elites in underdeveloped countries deliberately plunder their people and keep them impoverished.” A country can have either inclusive or extractive economic institutions. Inclusive economic institutions pave the way for economic success because they encourage citizens to participate in economic activities. An extractive economic institution receives income from one group in society for the benefit of another group. Similarly, politics can also be either inclusive or extractive. An inclusive political institution has pluralism. This means every group in society is being represented politically. If a political institution doesn’t have pluralism, they are extractive. An inclusive political institution is best because all groups are represented, which doesn’t allow for extractive economic policies.

Therefore, you will be able to write your practice country research paper only after exploring and evaluating the political and economic institutions of your practice country.
