PRAC 6568: Clinical Skills and Procedures Self-Assessment Form
FNP Students
*Students are expected to achieve competency with the clinical skills list
**Procedures are skills that may be available for students but are not required.
Summary of strengths:
|
I am proficient and confident in several clinical abilities. Peak flow meters, pulmonary function tests, and quick strep tests are essential for patient evaluation and treatment, and I am proficient in executing and interpreting these. I also excel in ocular, otoscopic, and breast exams, which are crucial for patient care. I can manage chronic illnesses using asthma and allergy action plans and wound care procedures, demonstrating my expertise in acute and chronic care. I am also comfortable doing and interpreting laboratory and diagnostic tests, including EKGs, which helps me incorporate diagnostic information into patient treatment (Dzikowicz & Carey, 2022). These abilities help me provide excellent patient care and improve treatment results.
|
Opportunities for growth:
|
While I have good skills, I can improve my clinical practice. Joint injections and urodynamic investigations, where I lack expertise, are development potential. While I am confident in fundamental diagnostic and procedural duties, learning cryotherapy and shave biopsies would help me handle a broader spectrum of patient problems. More expertise with contraceptive installation, especially with long-term options like IUDs, will enable me to provide complete reproductive health care (Lanzola & Ketvertis, 2023). Learning these sophisticated and specialized techniques will improve my clinical adaptability and allow me to deliver more complete patient care. I want to improve my abilities and positively impact patient outcomes and care quality by getting more training and mentoring. |
Now, write 3–4 possible goals and objectives for this practicum experience. Ensure that they follow the SMART Strategy, as described in the Learning Resources.
|
Goal 1: Enhance Proficiency in Interpreting Laboratory/Diagnostic Testing Objective 1.1: By the end of the practicum, I will accurately interpret laboratory and diagnostic test results in at least 90% of cases under supervision. This shall be measured through a series of case studies and preceptor evaluations on this matter. Objective 1.2: Over the course of the next four weeks, I will attend at least two workshops or training sessions that are related to advanced diagnostic interpretation in order to enhance both my knowledge of and practical application of techniques for diagnostic testing. Objective 1.3: I will keep a reflective journal of at least five cases where diagnostic testing had an impact on patient management. I will achieve this with increasing skill and knowledge at the close of the practicum. Goal 2: Develop Competence in Performing Punch Biopsies Objective 2.1: By the end of the practicum, under supervision, I will conduct a minimum of ten punch biopsies, while sustaining at least an 80% level in both procedural accuracy and patient comfort, as evaluated by my preceptor. Outcome 2.2: I will review and study the most up-to-date practices and techniques pertaining to punch biopsies from the most recent three peer-reviewed articles or guidelines within the first two weeks of the practicum. Objective 2.3: I will seek feedback from my preceptor after each punch biopsy I perform. I will then endeavor to incorporate this feedback into future procedures in this realm with observable, progressive improvement reflected on weekly evaluations.
Goal 3: Master Suturing Techniques Objective 3.1: By the end of practicum, I will have completed at least 15 suturing experiences, including simple interrupted sutures and suture removals, at an average proficiency of at least 85%, as measured by my preceptor. Objective 3.2: Participate in a workshop on hands-on suturing within the first month of practicum to further hone my skills and techniques, taking learned concepts and applying them directly to patient care scenarios. Objective 3.3: Log suturing procedures, including techniques used, patient responses, and complications encountered, and review log with your preceptor bi-weekly to determine progress made and any areas where further improvement is needed.
Goal 4: Improve Skills in Splinting Objective 4.1: By the end of the practicum, I shall have effectively splinted at least 12 different injuries, with a satisfactory level of at least 90% as rated by the patients and preceptor. Objective 4.2: During the first three weeks of the practicum, I will attend at least one specialized training session or online course focused on advanced splinting techniques to extend my skill set. Objective 4.3: I will review and practice splinting techniques on the simulation models or mannequins on a weekly basis, striving to show an increase in speed and accuracy with applications of splints as measured by bi-weekly skill assessments from my preceptor. |
