Lock-On Wave-Off, Pull

Deployment Transition

AFF Dive Flow Transition Between Top and Bottom

6,000 Ft - End of the top half of the skydive

Lock your gaze onto altimeter (“Lock On!”)

Anticipate 5,500 feet

5,500 Ft - Wave-off & pull

Wave once under the chin

Arch, reach, grab, throw (with stability)

Count 1-thousand through 3-thousand

Pull Priorities You need to know these

1. Pull!

Get a parachute out!

2. Pull on time!

Get a parachute out, at 5,500 feet after wave-off!

3. Pull on time with stability

Get a parachute out, at 5,500 feet after wave-off, while relaxed arching and legs out! Avoid going back!

Pull Priorities

Never sacrifice a top priority for a lower

priority

Risk Assessment Review Education

Practice for Perfection

Positive Self-Talk

Positive and Perfect Visualization

Break Into Small Tasks

Focus on Breathing

Control Brain = Body = Actions

Control Body = Brain = Actions

Canopy Control Initial Evaluation

Count to 3 Slowly for Deployment

Check # 1 - Check the parachute

Is it there? (Looking up or over your shoulder)

Is it square?

Can I control it (Controllability Check)

Complete Flare

Turn Left 360 degrees

Turn Right 360 degrees

Smooth Movements

Canopy Control Controls

When you turn the parachute, the parachute dives proportionally to the degree of turn!

Canopy Control Control Speed Locations

Full Flight - Hands all of the way up

# 0 = Quarter Brakes - Hands at eye level

# 1 = Half Brakes - Hands at shoulders

# 2 = Three Quarters Brakes - Hands at belly button

# 3 = Full Flare - Arms locked at elbows and straight down, hands in groin

This is the “Flare!” you will hear on the radio for landing

Canopy Control Post Opening Evaluation

Check # 2 - Where are you

Check your altitude

Check # 3 - Where do you need to go

Where is the Drop Zone? (look and follow)

Where do you want to land?

Can you go anywhere?

How can you get there?

Can be Complete Right or Left

Canopy Control The Landing Pattern

Landing Priorities You need to know these

1. Land with a Level Wing

2. Land in a Clear and Open Area

3. Flare and PLF (Parachute Landing Fall)

5/24/2018

10

Canopy Control Landing

No Radical Turns Under 250 Feet

Minor Correction to # 0 are OK

Try to be Faced Into the Wind by 250 Feet

Canopy Control Landing

Hands all of the way up

Feet and Knees Together

Everything Bent Ready for Landing

Canopy Control Flaring

Canopy Control Landing

Flare the Canopy at 15 feet in light wind

Flare the canopy at 10 feet in high wind

The purpose of the flare is to convert forward speed to lift and stop the decent

The Instructor will say “Flare!”

5/24/2018

11

Canopy Control Stall

If you flare too high, go back to #2 and wait for 5 feet then finish the flare and PLF very well!

ALWAYS Target the PLF

Balls of Feet

Calf

Thigh

Glutes

Shoulders

Canopy Control Landing

PLF Post Landing

Collapse and control canopy

Unsnap helmet but leave it on

Loosen leg straps

Daisy chain the canopy

WATCH FOR TRAFFIC as you cross the runway to return to the hanger

Parachute is out of the container or deployment bag

Some or all of the parachute is still in the container or wrapped around your appendage

Still at freefall speed

Emergency Procedures High Speed Partial Horseshoe Solutions

Solution (2 tried / 2 seconds)

Point arm or leg upward and brush or shake off

Remove and throw the pilot chute

Regardless as to your success with these solutions, you get 2 tries or 2 seconds. Initiate Emergency Procedures

Malfunctions Bi-Plane

Match brake position on both parachutes

Steer with gentle input

Aim for largest open area

Avoid the flare as it will cause the parachutes to change configurations
