Understanding How the Case Mix Index Affects a Facility
As a health care manager, it is important to understand what the case mix index stands for, whether it is better to have a lower or higher CMI, and how it affects the facility.
Read the following scenario and review the data table provided.
When looking at your facility’s case mix index (CMI) it is noted that your facility is much lower than the national case mix index. The chief financial officer (CFO) would like a review of what is causing the low CMI and what steps need to be taken to drive up the CMI for your facility.
