PowerPoint Pointers
Notes Section:
Type a narration for each slide in the notes section under each PowerPoint slide using complete sentences that thoroughly discuss the information and bulleted points on the slides and make sure that APA citations are included. The typed narration is what would be orally stated if you were to present this presentation in a professional meeting. Once you have created your narrations in the notes section, go back through the slides and eliminate words that are not necessary to your audience’s understanding. Delete bullet points that you can better explain through your oral presentation.
Title Slide:
This slide needs to contain your title, name, class title, and date.
Content Slides:
Create and develop PowerPoint slides that cover all the elements listed above. You will be graded on the presentational quality of your PowerPoint slides. Here are some guidelines that must be followed for your PowerPoint presentation.
0. Choose a PowerPoint design, color scheme, font type, and bullet types. These should be consistent throughout your presentation.
0. Organize the slides based on the topics that need to be discussed—review your rubric. The title for each slide needs to clearly state what you are covering in your slide.
0. Include a title slide (at the beginning) and a reference slide (at the end of the presentation).
0. Do not overload the slides with text and data.
0. Use bullet points to organize your text.
0. Keep the text abbreviated and concise.
0. Strive for clarity.
0. Use pictures, graphics, charts, and graphs to illustrate key points (make sure that you include the link where you copied these if you did not create them yourselves, include in the notes section of that slide).
0. Graphics should make a key concept clearer—they should not be flashy or distracting.
0. Use at least 24 point font size consistently throughout. Note, this is JUST a guide for professional PPTs, the size can be adapted accordingly. This font size is ideal to support viewing by an audience, this is NOT expected for the reference page.
0. Final slides should emphasize key points, or leave the audience with a question to think about or answer.
Reference Slide:
Be sure to include a slide at the end of the presentation that lists all of the sources used in the presentation. You may use a smaller font size for this slide. All citations must be consistent with current APA requirements.
