Activity requirements
Enough people to form three groups or more of 2-4 group members
4-6 playing cards for every participant
Main objective of the activity is to measure and improve communication
Each team will piece together pieces of cut cards into complete cards
It will reveal the perspectives of others
It will help members to develop negotiation skills, empathy, and better communication techniques
Match Card Pieces
Cut every card twice diagonally to form four equal-sized triangular pieces
Mix these pieces together in a central place
Randomly put equal number of pieces into envelopes equal to the number of groups or teams formed
Give each team/group an envelope full of card pieces
Allocate 3 minutes maximum for each group to assemble similar pieces and form complete cards
In the 3 minutes, members should decide which pieces are missing and choose a strategy of bargaining to acquire them
Match Card Pieces
At the end of 3 minutes, let members barter for remaining card pieces from other groups
Allocate 8 minutes for the bartering process
At the end of 8 minutes, the activity is called off
Each groups submits their number of complete cards
The group with the highest numbers is announced the winner
Match Card Pieces
Final discussion should be led by the activity facilitator
Group members should reflect on strategies they used in the bartering process, why they worked or did not work
Members should discuss what they would have improved to complete more cards
Members should cite incidents where they used empathy and active listening
