RSC Tempest and Forbidden Planet

RSC Tempest

Topic Idea Modern People who have a desire for power and ruling .modern people often act to fulfill their own selfish needs and desires. In the Tempest the characters are locked in a power struggle , where each wants to have power over the island and everyone else .Prospero in the story has control over Ariel and Caliban ,although he treats both the relationship differently , they are both away of the control Prospero has over them .Caliban challenges this by serving Stephano , he sees him as a strong god and offers to serve him as his new master. he escapes one control only to create another and persuades Stephano to kill Prospero so that he can marry Miranda and have control over the island .Power in the play is also seen where when Gonzalo envisions a world with no power he is mocked .Sebastian reminds him that he would have power and a king even though he does not exercise it. Each character tends to have a plan for the Island if they were in charge. Caliban wants to "fill the isle with Caliban's," Stefano wants to murder his way to power, and Gonzalo imagines an utopian mutually regulated society if he were in command of the island. We often desire to have power in order to fulfill our selfish needs and gains.

Forbidden Planet

Topic Idea Modern people often think that the monster attacking them is an external threat however and often it tends to be an internal threat .Morbius lives in a remote planet with his daughter. Morbius, who lives in his own little empire made by unexplained technology, is skeptical and resentful of everyone who walks into his paradise and disturbs it. A threat, occurs with Morbius's id controlling the monster and the machine bringing it to life

Forbidden Planet

Internal threat is demonstrated throughout the film, primarily by Robby and Morbius, and how the posters made Robby appear to be an external threat, and how the monster killing everyone is seen as another external threat, which is not the case with Morbius's mind tapping into the big machine and unconsciously creating a monster of his id. The subconscious and the darkness that lurks within it are the internal threat addressed in this film. External threats may include invading foes, and natural disasters, whereas internal threats may include spies, betrayals of trusted friends, and, of course, the evil that exists within oneself. Morbius' internal threat or subconscious betrays him as his anger and ill feelings grow stronger, and the powerful machine responds to his ideas, resulting in the creation of the Id monsters. We often let our emotions , such as fear, anger, and hatred control us and hence when this emotions increase, they become an internal threat.
