Psychology: Psychotherapy Note:
Patient participated in an individual therapy session 1430-1600. Session focused on treatment goal #3. The session addressed Patient identifying and expressing his feelings regarding being away from his family. Patient was asked to write letters describing his feelings and desires connected to each family member. In his letters, Patient verbalized feelings of sadness, love, fear, and disappointments. Afterwards, therapist praised Patient on his efforts. During the process of writing his letters, Patient was observed to become quiet and withdrawn. After a few minutes, Patient became tearful and irritable. He was observed throwing his notebook on the floor, pushing a chair, and punching a wall. In order to de-escalate, Patient walked himself to the quiet room, independently. In the quiet room, he was observed to be sad and cried intensely. He remained in the quiet room until he was able to calm himself. During that time, he was reminded of his coping skills to utilize, such as taking deep breaths and talking to his family members. Therapist validated his feelings of sadness and his ability to utilize his coping skills. Next session will continue to process his feelings associated to Patient’s upcoming discharge and separation from his family members..
