When traumatic stress hits a community it can cause anger, grief, or affect individuals’ behaviors (Perserson, 2016, pp. 352). Some communities are able to recover from a traumatic event, and others are not as lucky. When a community works together to rebuild it causes strength and growth. For example, when Lee county had the tornado in March of 2019 there was death, people hurt, and homes destroyed. Lee county banded together to rebuild what they had, and also people from other communities help to support the need of the community. Donations and other things came to the county to help aid the people giving them hope and support. In other cases, communities may have to relocate disrupting the foundation of the home and identity((Perserson, 2016, pp.352).

An example would be the bombing of Black Wall Street in May of 1921, African American homes and businesses were bombed causing them having to relocate and build. Black Wall Street was destroyed and attacked by the Ku Klux Klan. The incident was so tragic the community was not able to recover and still hunts some African Americans until this day. The incident caused grief and hopelessness for many African Americans.
