If involved in this scenario, I would complete several actions to ensure that I am correctly managing the situation. I would talk to the other graduate assistant to understand their perspective. The opinion of one graduate assistant, who is also a personal friend, cannot represent the opinions of a group. While I may discuss the issue with a trusted colleague, I would present the issue directly to my supervisor. This would create less confusion in the work environment. Talking to the supervisor will create confidentiality so that the graduate assistants and hall directors won't develop issues with one another. This will also prevent me from developing negative relationships with my colleagues because they may feel that I am more concerned with the needs of the graduate assistants. The supervisor can handle the situation further and can possibly implement a revised policy. Like Claire, I would also reference both ACPA and NASPA's professional standards and research institutional policies. 

All five ethical principals are a stake in this case. Each of them plays a unique role in decision-making for this issue. "Do no harm" and "Promote justice" are the easiest for me to practice. "Benefit others" and "Be Faithful" may be greater challenges for me because I desire to remain fair and create a positive working environment. However, personal relationships and other competing interests may be problematic for me. It will be challenging to remain professional, while also trying to ensure people are treated equally and fairly. I will have to learn to balance professionalism and personal relationships in making decisions.
