Please write all your answers in a separate word processing document. Please submit all your answers in one word (.doc or .docx) or pdf (.pdf) document on Canvas and please put your name in that document and number your pages. The answers will be automatically checked through Turnitin for originality. Do not copy the actual questions into your answer document before your answers, but make sure to indicate which questions you are answering. Read the questions carefully and address all the parts of the questions you choose to answer. Draw your answers from the information in the readings/class notes/videos when applicable. If you are referring to a syllabus reading (other than the textbook), make sure to include the name of the author(s) in your answer in parentheses, but you do not need a specific citation format. You do not need to cite the specific video lectures (either the live session or the recorded lectures) if you are referring to them in your answer. You do not need a bibliography at the end of your answers if you are referring to the textbook, the other syllabus readings, or the video lectures. You are not required to use sources outside the syllabus. You are strongly recommended to use only the sources from the class (lectures/videos and the readings and everything available in Canvas for the class) If you end up using outside sources (such as some websites), make sure to cite them in your answers. (longer answer) (30 points each * 2 = 60 points) For Question 2, everyone is asked to answer the question. (shorter answer) (20 points) In total, everyone will submit 2 longer answers + 1 shorter answer. (60 + 20 = 80 points) The written part of the exam is worth 80 points. 2 QUESTION 1 (CHOOSE TWO TO ANSWER OUT OF THE OPTIONS 1A, 1B, 1C)

For this question, please write an approximately 1.5 - 2 pages double-spaced, 12 font for each of your two answers. You can go slightly over the suggested page length. Make sure to answer all parts in the questions you choose to answer. They are indicated in different colors for clarity. You do not need to use colors in your answer document. 30 points for each question * 2 = 60 points

1A) “Anarchy is what states make of it.” “500 British nuclear weapons are less threatening to the US than 5 North Korean nuclear weapons”. Identify the scholar who wrote these sentences and discuss the meaning of these sentences, giving specific examples. Which theoretical framework does this view fall under? Briefly outline the main tenets of this theory. Then, think about another theoretical framework that might disagree with this view of anarchy. What would its possible counter argument be? Why?

1B) How do we define globalization? Has the world experienced a globalized era before? Explain how two of the three classical IPE theories views globalization and if some of these claims are considered to be true or false. What is one phenomenon that is being more emphasized in the most recent period of globalization? What is the most common way of measuring this phenomenon? Keeping that phenomenon in mind, how can globalization be made better for more people? (Keep in mind some videos on this issue/live session)

1C) How can we analyze a foreign policy decision using three levels of analysis?

Answer this question by giving a specific foreign policy decision example (an example either mentioned in class or not). 1) First, explain that example briefly. 2) Then mention at least one approach from each of the three levels of analysis, by defining the approach first and briefly applying it to the case. Make sure to highlight how those three approaches you choose shed light on why that foreign policy decision was taken.

QUESTION 2: EVERYONE SHOULD ANSWER THIS QUESTION. Please answer the following question in about two paragraphs – around 1-1.5 pages - double spaced. (20 points)

• As we discussed in the last live session, do you think we will see more multilateralism (decisions taken by cooperation/international agreements, etc.) or less multilateralism in international relations in the future? When answering this question, please identify two specific international relations related challenges/issues that impact several countries in the world and justify your response around those issues. Please refer to the readings/slides/videos/class material as applicable. Best answer will refer to some of the readings in the syllabus.
