Portfolio
Each student is expected to complete a Career Portfolio. The Outline of the Career Portfolio should include the following:
1. Personal Mission Statement (Not Career Objectives but what drives you as a person)
2. Resume/CV (1 page) No longer than a page!
3. Elevator Pitch (outline)
4. Accomplished body of work, (to include synopsis of projects, internship, work assignments, special courses etc. sample of work you have done. short list of accomplishments, especially those that point to your ability to solve problems or shows initiative). Need to highlight transferable skills. DO NOT INCLUDE YOUR WHOLE TERM PAPER IN THE PORTFOLIO. DO NOT INCLUDE AWARDS. SCHOLARSHIPS IN THIS SECTION!
5. Career goals (immediate, mid-term and long term)
Be sure to include in YOUR Career Goals, elements of your Strength Finder Assessment . How do your career aspirations leverage your strength themes. Please be clear about this at every stage of your career goals
The career portfolio is expected to showcase who you are and your potential, to a prospective employer, indicating what value that you can add to an organization. It helps to complement your interview or even get you interviews for "unexpected" positions. This should be between 6-8 pages in length. Please make sure that your submission is free of grammatical and typographical errors.
IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THE FOLLOWING AS YOU WORK ON T.HE PORTFOLIO
THAT YOUR PERSONAL MISSION STATEMENT IS NOT JUST YOUR CAREER OBJECTIVE OR THE JOB YOU WANT. IT SHOULD BE THE CORE OF WHAT DRIVES YOU AS A PERSON. SHOULD BE NO MORE THAN A PARAGRAPH OR TWO.
YOUR RESUME SHOULD BE CONDENSED TO ONE PAGE FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT
THE SECTION ON "ACCOMPLISHED BODY OF WORK" SHOULD BE DEMONSTRATION OF THE TRANSFERABLE SKILLS YOU HAVE USED ON OTHER PROJECTS. TWO OR THREE EXAMPLES ARE ENOUGH AND SHOULD BE SHORT DESCRIPTIONS OF THE SKILLS. DO SUBMIT A WHOLE PROJECT BUT IT IS OKAY TO SHOW AN EXAMPLE OF A DASHBOARD CREATED. NO NEED TO MENTIONED AWARDS AND SCHOLARSHIPS!
CAREER GOALS SHOULD BE STATED AS REQUIRED AND SHOULD REFERENCE YOUR STRENGTH FINDER ASSESSMENT THEMES ATEVERY STAGE OF YOUR CAREER GOALS.
FINALLY MAKE SURE THAT THE WORD OR PDF DOCUMENT IS WELL FORMATTED AND PRESENTABLE TO POTENTIAL EMPLOYERS.
