Assignment

One main theme of the course is examining how to bring change regarding the environment. This assignment is designed to push your learning from awareness to action.

Topic

How Cutting Palm Oil Trees Affects Orangutans and what is the relationship between palm oil and climate change

Points to consider as you select and implement your project:

What do you want to achieve in the process, is this realistic? What may prevent progress or help you succeed in the process, and how can you plan for these? Who will you need to work with in the process (who are the stakeholders and what are their interests)? What will be most effective to change behavior?

Assignment Components

1. Project Report –– a 3-4 page document that

(a) defines the environmental issue you have chosen and provides background research (include citations) on the environmental issue (discuss the history, stakeholders, policy responses taken, needs, etc., provide statistics and relevant facts as a background to defining the problem),

(b) proposes the solution that you will make people aware of on your AES poster.

2. Project Summary –and Time Log –

You must write a 6-8 page paper that

(a) describes the project you chose and why (see Topic Selection),

(b) provides background information on the environmental issue (see Project Report)

(c) presents your solution and Awareness project design (see Project Report),

(e) assesses the results of your project and the lessons you learned (2-3 pages), and

(e) discusses potential impacts and future steps that should be taken (1-2 pages).

(f) ***Include an additional page that summarizes how you spent 25 hours working on the project (time log).
