Police Racial Bias Discussion

The transformation of racial prejudice is an intricate process that requires innovative tactics. This is one of the claims by Miller & Vittrup (2020) which requires critical consideration since it impacts on the wide demographic of persons undergoing racial prejudice. The other claim by Miller & Vittrup (2020) is that the Black Lives Matter campaign has promoted major insight into the plight of African American individuals. The claim of innovative tactics is more logically sound than the Black Lives Matter movement. This is because the tactics proposed analyze the number of unlawful deaths in an annual basis and in terms of causes of the fatal encounters. The literature revealed that the Southwest and West parts of the country experienced more fatal encounters. There is a gap in the literature where the reasons for high death rates in the geographical areas have not been properly provided. It is imperative to find an connection between fatal encounters in certain areas and the effect of Black Lives Matter movement in such areas.

There is another claim by Schwartz & Jahn (2020) which states that the techniques of reducing prejudiced killings have not been effective. Schwartz & Jahn (2020) further claimed that racial bias by police has negative effects on the mental stability of African American persons and their families. The claim of detrimental mental status is more empirically sound since the literature revealed that there were eighteen African American persons chosen in the study. There is a gap in the literature since discussions for change in police racism have not yielded any positive outcomes. The reoccurrence of fatal encounters proves that the public outcry calling for end to racist police procedures are not properly adopted by leaders.
