A federal policy that affects my current job is the SCRA or the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act.  This policy helps active duty servicemembers with financial burdens while serving.  Some of the benefits associated with the act include limits to 6 percent interest on credit obligations incurred prior to military service or activation, including credit card debt, for active duty servicemembers. As well as, terminate a cell phone contract if you relocate for at least 90 days to a location that does not support your cell phone service (SCRA, 2015).

I was fortunate to be able to utilize a portion of this Act during a recent move. The new provision in the SCRA allows termination of leases by active duty servicemembers who subsequently receive orders for a permanent change of station (PCS) or a deployment for a period of 90 days or more (SERVICEMEMBERS’, 2015).  I was expecting to stay in the same area, but anyone in the military knows that isn’t always possible. With this act I was able to break my lease and move with out any early termination fee.

Congress along with the rest of the government play a major role in determining work place conditions at my job, for the reason that I work for the government. Congress passes laws every year that affect military members. For instance, revoking don’t ask don’t tell and determining each branch’s budget.
