· In the previous weeks’ lessons you may have noticed how the events of the world strongly influenced and shaped the ways in which authors crafted their pieces. Similarly, in this lesson, you’ll notice how the writing of the Modernist era is often linked to World War I (1914-1918). Indeed, several prominent Modernist writers were WWI veterans. We will take a closer look at some of these Modernist writers, including E.E. Cummings, T.S. Eliot, F. Scott Fitzgerald, John Steinbeck and Ernest Hemingway. We will also explore the New Criticism movement.
