PMI Proposal

Title: Intentionally promoting acceptance with projects that involve change Number of course hours: 2 Minimum 10 Maximum 50 Methods: Web conference, whiteboard, role play/simulation

Purpose: This course focuses on the tools and processes needed for the project manager to understand the challenges and resistance and to proactively manage change in projects for sustainable results. Understand and apply basic tools and approaches to unfreezing old behaviors and attitudes and produce alignment with an organization toward a shared vision. Understand and identify resistance to change and apply skills to manage resistance. Develop processes to reinforce the new behavior.

Description: Managing projects is can be challenges and the work becomes more difficult when there is a change that is difficult to accept. This session reviews the types of challenges that difficult change can bring to projects and how to assess the biggest challenges. Using current methodologies in change management participants will learn how to leverage project management tools to encourage acceptance, deal with resistance, and to reinforce behaviors that promote acceptance to change.

Outline: Intro to change management and the challenges that poor acceptance brings to projects Changing old behavior and creating acceptance (unfreezing), creating alignment within teams and organizations Surfacing and managing resistance and strategies to promote buy-in Sustaining changes through reinforcing positive behaviors and creating consequences for negative behavior

Learning Outcomes: After completion of this course, participants shall be able to: Explain the change cycle and describe the reactions and behaviors in positive and negative changes Explain the importance of managing change Choosing and applying the tools for groups to support change and to align toward common vision and goals Choosing and applying the tools to surface and management resistance Identifying and proposing reinforcement of desired behavior and/or consequences for negative behavior.
