Recommendations for clinical practice are essential to our daily work. The Institute of Medicine defines clinical recommendations as statements that are deliberately developed to aid practitioners and patients in selecting the best medical treatment for particular clinical situations (Panteli et al., 2019). There are frequently explicit directions on what diagnostic or screening tests to pursue, how to administer medical care, or other specifics of clinical practice (Panteli et al., 2019).
UpToDate and MedLinePlus are the two resources I use in the clinic to help with making diagnosis and doing assessments. They have been really helpful to me with both my assignments and in the clinic setting. I personally used the phone app provided by UpToDate at work to educate myself and become familiar with new rules and changes. It offers thorough information that is easy to comprehend and is backed by reliable research.
In clinical settings, Medline Plus is a reliable source of medical information since it provides peer-reviewed, scientifically sound health information. A service of the National Library of Medicine (NLM), the largest medical library in the world and a unit of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is MedlinePlus (MedlinePlus, n.d.). On the website, there is a comprehensive, well-organized, and user-friendly directory for every disease, treatment, and health subject. Furthermore, it provides content in a range of languages so that, if necessary, we may print out educational materials and health resources for patients or their families. The fact that both of these resources are user-friendly and simple to utilize is their strongest feature.

Resources are an important part of our daily practice as health care providers. Resources help us deliver high-quality care for our patients. Medical equipment to do echocardiogram, Sonograms, MRI's or x-ray, for example, are essential because without these resources, patient care may be delayed or compromised. By using imaging modalities, we can gather detailed information about what's inside the body, allowing us to recognize and diagnose various illnesses. For instance, X-rays are routinely used to diagnose bone fractures or irregularities, while MRI scans can provide thorough pictures of organs and muscles composed of soft tissue. Diagnostic imaging can track the growth of particular illnesses and assess the success of treatment programs. According to (US Food and Drug Administration [FDA], 2023), medical imaging has led to improvements in the diagnosis and treatment of numerous medical conditions in children and adults.
CDC Evidence-Based Guidelines, these are a type of resource that we integrate into our daily practice. According to the CDC, “ a CDC guideline is any document issued under agency authority that contains recommendations for clinical practice or public health policy.(Carande-Kulis et al., n.d.). Recommendations are statements that describe a specific prevention, treatment, or policy action. The scientific evidence underlying these statements is typically obtained through the systematic review of the literature and organized in evidence summaries” (Carande-Kulis et al., n.d.). By following these guidelines, we can put together a treatment plan that is secure and beneficial for the patient. The nurse practitioners are given evidence-based treatment guidelines to assist when deciding how to treat different health issues and disorders.
During this COVID-19 pandemic, protecting patients and health care professionals requires using resources like personal protective equipment (PPE). PPE such as masks, gloves, gowns, and face shields act as a physical barrier between the wearer and potentially infectious material, such as respiratory droplets or bodily fluids. This barrier can help prevent us from coming into contact with the virus and lower the risk of infection. All these PPE resources can be an effective tool for protecting healthcare workers and other essential workers during a pandemic.
