DISCUSSION POST # 1 Talia

My plan for satisfying the 135 clinical hour requirement for FNP594 includes working in the clinic with my preceptor a minimum of 17 hours each week. I find staying organized and getting ahead on assignments has been beneficial thus far. I hope to do this in this course as well. We are also required to complete journal entries on the different categories of patients that we see. For example, geriatrics requires 100 cases by the end of the program. Knowing this, I have created a tally sheet to track the number of patients in each category that I see to supplement the reports we run in project concert. I am also tracking the different type of procedures or the type of visit within that category. For example, project concert shows that 4 annual exam visits are required for each patient population or 2 radiograph interpretations. Keeping track of these requirements help me know where I need to focus my time. For this clinical rotation, I would like to satisfy some of the requirements so that I can focus more on the assessment, follow up, and billing evolution for patients. I have subscribed to a platform that provides a source of current clinical practice guidelines to ensure the use of evidence to support clinical decision making. Clinical practice guidelines are informed by a review of evidence that include recommendations that guide medical decision making and aim to improve patient care (National Institute of Health, 2023). In addition to this, the FNP notebook is an excellent resource that provides a multitude of information that is evidence-based and is available as an app on your mobile device.

DISCUSSION POST # 2 Alia

For most of us, by the time we reach this level professionally and academically, are non-traditional students. We have full-time careers, children, financially independent, or single parents. Priode (2019) acknowledges that non-traditional nursing students have more to consider when it comes to being successful. Nurse practitioner students need to find ways to manage the vast amounts of new information and move forward confidently in school, clinical settings, their daily lives, and schedules (Priode, 2019). Staying organized comes with high levels of self-efficacy and is crucial to ensure we meet all of our didactic and clinical requirements. It requires discipline and commitment to balance school, personal, and work life.

During these next 8 weeks, the following steps can help any student (traditional or not), become successful to meet all the necessary demands required of Nurse Practitioner students:

· Create a schedule: Develop a detailed schedule that outlines your didactic and clinical requirements, including specific tasks, assignments, and clinical hours. Use a planner or digital tools like Google Calendar to manage your schedule effectively.

· Prioritize tasks: Identify your most important tasks and prioritize them based on deadlines and importance. This will help you stay focused and ensure you complete critical assignments and clinical hours on time.

· Break tasks into smaller steps: Divide complex tasks into smaller, manageable steps. This approach makes it easier to tackle tasks incrementally and helps you stay motivated.

· Set realistic goals: Establish realistic goals for each day, week, or month. Make sure your goals align with your overall objectives and take into account the time and effort required for each task.

· Utilize to-do lists: Create daily or weekly to-do lists to keep track of tasks and assignments. Prioritize your list based on urgency and importance. Check off completed tasks to maintain a sense of accomplishment.

· Allocate dedicated study time: Set aside specific time slots for studying, reviewing course materials, and preparing for exams. Treat this study time as a non-negotiable commitment and eliminate distractions during these periods.

· Utilize technology and apps: Utilize various productivity apps and tools to help you stay organized. Tools like Trello, Evernote, or Microsoft OneNote can assist in managing tasks, taking notes, and keeping all your important documents in one place.

· Maintain a clean workspace: Keep your study area organized and free from clutter. A tidy workspace promotes focus and minimizes distractions, allowing you to concentrate better on your tasks.

· Communicate with your clinical preceptor: Regularly communicate with your clinical preceptor to discuss your clinical requirements and progress. This will help you stay on track and ensure you meet your clinical hours and patient specific needs.

· Stay motivated and take breaks: Stay motivated by reminding yourself of your long-term goals and the significance of completing your requirements. Take regular breaks to relax, recharge, and avoid burnout. Short breaks can improve productivity and prevent mental fatigue.
