RUNNING HEAD: PRACTICUM EXPEIENCE PLAN 2

Practicum Experience Plan

The purpose of a Practicum Experience Plan (PEP) is to provide an opportunity to outline that sets forth objectives to frame and guide me through my practicum experience. The practicum's goal is to provide opportunities to integrate and apply practical skills, knowledge, and training learned through courses and to further gain professional experience in a professional public health work environment. It is a bridge between classroom and practice, it also creates a learning environment to develop new skills and adjust previously learned practice. Through this practicum, I am expecting to be able to observe and learn from professionals in the field. I will formulate a PEP for this practicum experience and discuss a nursing theory and one counseling theory that I will put into practice to guide my clinical practice and individualized learning objectives. PEP is like a map used when traveling from one city to another, it provides a guide to navigating the field experience from beginning to end.

Part 2: Individualized Practicum Learning Objectives

Objective 1: Enhance professional skills for Ethical and Legal Conduct: When dealing with patients, safety must be prioritized and should be governed by legal and ethical conduct. Hence, to be a successful PMHNP, I am required to acknowledge legal and ethical challenges that might impact the type of care given to patients globally. I must make critical decisions regarding a patient's care throughout my profession. Therefore, understanding some ethical theories and important legislations surrounding them is vital as it would protect both my patients and me. Throughout my career, I am more likely to experience ethical dilemmas requiring me to comprehend the professional code of conduct that guides the practice into obtaining positive results.

Planned Activities: We have various planned activities that may help increase our professional skills for legal and ethical conduct. Having a mentor from the department of psychiatry and psychology is considered the most important. This is because the mentor will help me stay updated with most requirements. Therefore, I will assess the essential ethical dilemmas of the organization at hand and clearly understand its suitable solution. I also plan to attend webinars and workshops dealing with ethical and legal conduct, which will help me enhance my professional skills.

Mode of Assessment: Display professionalism and comply with the company’s policies.

PRAC Course Outcome(s) Addressed:

· Sticking to professionalism is important for all PMHNPs as it helps deal with patients' mental health issues when using telemedicine.

· Every healthcare provider must respect human dignity and rights, thus enhancing every patient's privacy. This is important to all mental health patients as they experience emotional effects which are brought about by stigma.

Objective 2: Be sufficient when it comes to implementing treatment interventions. To be an effective PMHNP, one must possess the skills of handling mental health care services with less or no supervision. Due to that, I will be required to execute diagnoses, classify differential diagnoses, and plan and implement care to improve the outcomes of most psychiatric patients. When advising a patient on whether they should use pharmacological or non-pharmacological interventions, it is vital to support both techniques with evidence-based research to develop the client's experience. For a PMHNP o be successful, they must clearly understand the neurobiology of mental disorders and how to go about them.

Planned Activities: Under the supervision of an experienced PMHNP or psychiatrist, I will conduct a mental status evaluation by taking part in demanding roles. Moreover, I will perform psychotherapy for an individual client, their family or a group; prescribe medications based on evidence-based practice.

Mode of Assessment: Verification will be documented in Meditrek)

PRAC Course Outcome(s) Addressed:

· Coming up with individualized treatment plans that include pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods.

· Examine evidence-based treatment techniques for mental health illnesses across the lifetime.

Objective 3: Become a successful team player, which includes enhancing my communication and collaboration skills. To work with a multidisciplinary team, an individual must have excellent communication and collaboration skills. Collaborative care is a significant area impacting student preceptor discussions. After a self-assessment, I found that I have little knowledge and experience towards collaborative care. Generally, during a PMHNPs career, the professionals are more likely to work with different healthcare providers for them to deliver healthcare services effectively to all clients. In a clinical setting, mental health care services provide collaboration opportunities, allowing every provider to look at clients and ensure they do not have negative experiences. Additionally, having clear communication skills may assist other healthcare providers in comprehending a client's diagnosis, thus developing an ideal treatment plan.

Planned Activities: I will determine the most leading and coordinating

comprehensive mental evaluations. For this to happen, I will sort help from a clinical settings psychologist or psychiatrist. Afterwards, I will interact with other nurses, health care providers and social workers as part of the multidisciplinary interventions. After that, I will ask numerous health providers questions about different subjects to get their views and opinions. Lastly, I will use my psychiatric evaluation skills, experience and diagnostic reasoning skills to essential aspects of holistic care for me to get positive results.

Mode of Assessment: The frequency of participation in the interdisciplinary team and feedback and supervision quality.

PRAC Course Outcome(s) Addressed:

· Most organizations recommend all healthcare professionals in different clinical settings receive equal roles. For instance, all PMHNPs have a role to play in the multidisciplinary, including identifying precincts in a team's healthcare expertise. Additionally, they must plan for immediate referrals whenever a patient needs them.

· According to the International Society of Psychiatrist Mental Health Nurses, PMHNPs are advised to increase competencies in comprehensive psychiatric assessment, ordering and being able to interpret laboratory tests, which all include the interdisciplinary team role.
