Advocacy Plan Template

Directions: Complete this template using the criteria and directions provided.

Section 1: Advocacy Issue in Early Childhood (1–2 paragraphs per question)

Explain your selected advocacy issue and the goals and outcomes you want to achieve through your Advocacy Plan. To develop a detailed explanation of your advocacy issue and goals, include your response to each of the following questions:

· What is the issue you are advocating for?

· Why is your issue important to the early childhood community?

· Why is your issue important to you?

· What is the specific problem you are going to address in your plan?

· What is the specific goal?

· What is the aim of your advocacy plan? State what you want to achieve based upon your vision for change in the early childhood field.

· Where is your plan being implemented?

Note: You are required to implement one of the action steps in the Advocacy Plan to complete this Assessment.

Write your Section 1: Advocacy Issue in Early Childhood here:

Section 2: Resource Analysis and Synthesis (2–3 pages)

Select at least three current resources that provide multiple perspectives on the issue you selected. Then, complete the following:

· Identify each resource, including the APA citation.

· Write a 1—2 paragraph summary for each resource.

· Analyze the resources, and write a 2—3 paragraph synthesis of your findings.

Note: When selecting resources, look for ones that explores the root causes of the problem and describe the current policy or state of the issue. Pay particular attention to any solutions found in the research or suggested “next steps” that address the issue.

Respond to the following prompts. Then, complete the Action Plan Chart.

· Your advocacy process, and how you implemented one of the action steps in your Advocacy Plan.

· How you collaborated with others to achieve your objective.

· The result of your action step implementation, and how it did or will lead to positive social change for children, families, and/or the early childhood profession.

· Your “lessons learned” and how you might change your plan for advocacy the next time you develop an Advocacy Plan.
