Pitch Documents

As you’ve noticed by now, feature length screenplays are long. When a writer, director, or producer is shopping a script around, they create condensed versions of the story to quickly communicate its general premise. These come in 3 levels of detail: the logline, the synopsis, and the treatment (details of each is discussed in class).

Your assignment is to create a pitch documents for each of 3 potential story ideas that you could conceivably pursue for this course. For each pitch document, you must write a logline (1 to 2 sentences), a synopsis (1 paragraph), and a treatment (1 to 2 prose pages).

Remember, the key to a short film is that it has a single focus. It doesn’t try to take on as many characters or as much time as a feature length film. Keep this in mind while you’re trying to come up with ideas. If you’re coming up short, you can consult the “What to Write About Menu” I have posted on D2L for some food for thought.
