Week 3: RUA

PICOT Questions:

A PICOT questions helps you define a search strategy by posing what you want to know in question form to help guide your search strategy.

For this assignment you are to use your topic: look at your section of the rubric and develop a PICOT question that helps guide your search. You are encouraged to work with your group members to develop usable PICOT questions that will help you in week seven.

PICOT stands for:

P- Patient, population, problem

I-Intervention

C- Comparison/Control Group

O-Outcome or objective of research

T- Time Frame for study completion

Here is an example of mine that I utilized during my graduate research:

What is the incidence of PONV in female patients aged 18-30 versus aged 31-62 undergoing total hysterectomy from March 2019-March 2020.

P- As you can see I have the patient- female aged 18-60

Intervention- Total Hysterectomy

C- Two groups of varied ages- helps me see if PONV is worse or better in older patients

O-Objective to determine rates of post-operative nausea and vomiting

T- duration of one year

Another example based on research I created:

For ASA 1 and 2 patients (P) undergoing outpatient elective colonoscopy (I) is there a difference in discharge times (T) between those receiving Ketamine/Propofol, Propofol/Versed or Propofol(C) to decrease discharge times from outpatient endoscopy unit (O).
