A useful question should include Patient, Problem or Population, Intervention, Comparison, and
Outcomes.
Patient, Problem or Population: Describe the patient’s chief complaint or generalize the patient’s
condition to a larger population.
Intervention: Identify what you plan to do for that patient, such as diagnosis test, treatment,
medication, procedure, etc.
Comparison: The main alternative you are considering.
Outcome: Specifies the result of what you plan to accomplish, improve, or affect.
Appropriate PICO question
Is _____________ special test (I) more accurate in the diagnosis of ______________ injury (P)
compared with a comparative test (C) to achieve the most reliable diagnosis (O)?
Paper Assignment
Choose a special test that we have covered in class and enter the appropriate information into the
PICO question. Research the information needed to answer the question and write a paper with
the interpretation of your results. Discuss sensitivity, specificity, reliability, and validity. Also,
include how this would or would not change your evaluation process of an athlete for that
particular injury.
Minimum of 2 research articles of strong evidence must be cited in your paper in the 6th ed. APA
format (including a Bibliography). All papers must be typed in 12pt Times New Roman font,
double-spaced, 1in. margins, and 3 full pages.
