Scholarly journal articles, also called academic or peer-reviewed, tend to be written by experts in the field. Characteristics are:
· Lengthy and detailed
· Include abstract or summary of research
· Written by specialists and experts doing original research
· Reviewed and evaluated before publication
· Intended for academic use
· Use technical or professional language
· Ends with reference list
· Contain few, if any, advertisements
Examples of Scholarly Journals
American Economic Review is a peer-reviewed academic journal of economics. It is published with seven issues annually by the American Economic Association.
Published by the Harvard Business School, the articles cover a wide range of topics from leadership, strategy, finance, organizational change, operations and management.
A peer-reviewed academic journal edited by Purdue University's Department of English. Publishes articles on the topic of modernist and contemporary fiction using original research from literary scholars and includes book reviews.
