2. Homework- Set #2

Directions:

(1) Read Plato’s Crito, Republic, and the Laws.

(2) For each of the above dialogues develop one of your own ques-

tions and probe that question in terms of one or more of our

course themes.

(3) Write a response to your question for a minimum of one page

or a total of at least 3 pages for all of the three dialogues.

(4) Submit your response in a single pdf file by the deadline. (I

stated in class that the deadline will be this coming Monday,

but I would like to give you more time to go over the Dialogues.

So, the deadline will be this coming Wednesday, January 29th,

2020, on Canvas.)

(5) Bring a hard copy with you in class on Wednesday for peer

review. The PHM4041Handbook located in Module 0 describes

what I am looking for in a thoughtful written assignment. Also,

it contains a guide for peer reviewing.

(1) Directions: Read,The Exercise of Reason, by Locke. Provide

short responses to the following questions. You need to follow

my numbering. Your answers should be about one to two pages

long in total and must be to the point, clear, and straightfor-

ward.

(a) Locke states that ‘there are three miscarriages that men

are guilty in reference to their reason.’ Explain the mis-

carriages.

(b) Articulate what you think are the main arguments in para-

graph 4.

(c) On bottom of page 39, Locke says ‘the most of men are

so wholly stranger to this, that they do not so much as

perceive their want of it.’ Explain what this means.

(2) Directions: Read, The Education of Nature by Rousseau.

(a) The reading is divided in 29 small paragraphs (I have in-

dicated every paragraph using the expression ‘pn’). For

every paragraph come up with a one or two lines title that

indicates the main idea of the paragraph.
