Assigned Article Summary

Collaboration with other healthcare disciplines promotes safety and patient centered care. Resilience can indirectly promote safety and patient centered care by allowing healthcare workers to focus on their positive emotions. Often healthcare providers become discouraged from a continuous balance between life and work stressors. This can cause the healthcare professional to experience negative feelings toward their workplace and can overall delay patient care. The article highlights interventions that can be used to enhance resilience such as, making boards that encourage other healthcare disciplines with kind words on a sticky note. The article stated, “Building resilience is an ongoing process, and we’ve continued to develop ways to enhance positivity in the workplace.” (Hicks, T. P., Sullivan, M., Sexton, J. B., & Adair, K. C. (2019) Positive reinforcement in a workplace can positively impact a professional’s work ethic by acknowledging their hard work and contributions. Quality outcomes are predisposed by resilience through positive reinforcement tools that promotes providing optimal patient care.

The work environment at times can be very stringent and professionals are asked to do so much that resilience interventions can be extremely uplifting and helpful. The Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety, an organization that created tools influencing resilience in the workplace, recruited different interdisciplinary team members to practice these tactics at the workplace. Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety “creates a common language for communicating patient safety concerns, encourages a flat organizational structure so all team members feel comfortable speaking up for safety, and enhances teamwork….”( Hicks, T. P., Sullivan, M., Sexton, J. B., & Adair, K. C. (2019)By building rapport and getting to know the other healthcare personnel that you work. Resilience activities while collaborating with other team member can cause healthcare workers to have a positive outlook about work integrity.

Therefore, resilience can indirectly promote quality outcomes like patient safety by allowing healthcare workers to focus on their positive emotions.

Impact of Assigned Article Content on Future Practice

This article positively influences healthcare disciplines to promote positive attitudes toward providing care. Using the activities Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety created, can help recognize that all healthcare staff are working toward common goal and recognizing each other’s positive and virtuous characteristics. This will positively affect the future of my nursing practice by helping to balance the negative stressors with different approaches of positive reinforcement. This will include seeking other staff members constructive qualities and building rapport to enhance my forthcoming practice. Work can be considered overwhelming due to the large workload in small time periods. Another technique that will overall advance my future practice is managing time better by providing myself with enough time for my personal well being such as, adequate rest periods and mealtimes, to progressively stimulate encouraging emotions.
