Running head: PHASE V 1
PHASE V 5
The little Columbia island fire and emergency department was assigned the role of preparing and ferrying the infected individuals to the emergency location, the process served two major purposes. The infected individuals needed to be alienated from the others so that the spreading of the infection was reduced. The second objective of quarantining the infected individuals at a single place is to ensure that they are treated at a single point since they could not be transported to Little Columbia county hospital. The assignment are precise and helps in avoiding duplication of activities or leaving gaps. Medics and medicine are transported from Columbia county hospital through air transport by the hospital air services since little Columbia island has no capacity to treat the infected people and also to avoid spreading of the disease to other parts outside little Columbia island. The activities were left in the hands of safety officer in little Columbia. Finally, the sheriff department helped in establishing a hotline to report emergency cases related to the incident and dispatching the information to the fire and emergency department who offered transport and first aid services to the infected individual’s. All the activities are coordinated by the chief officer of the little Columbia fire and emergency services to ensure flow of authority and responsibilities.
Ethics in emergency services
The importance of ethics in emergency services and emergency management cannot be downplayed. Ethics are the moral guidelines that determine how emergency services are conducted and on how they are managed. It is the urge to do the right thing for the right purposes even though doing it is compromised by the situation at hand (Walsh, 2012). Emergency personnel needs to do the right thing when conducting their activities so as to ensure that they maximize on serving the affected individuals during the response process. Ethics guide the morality of the individual and a moral person will act for a greater good which surpasses self-satisfaction, they will also achieve the incident objectives without being compromised by the events or the situation at hand.
Standardized fire prevention and safety codes is very important to ensure that the response teams have a unified way of responding to fire incidences e even though they come from different regions or fire departments (Smeby, 2014). The unified code and fire prevention safety measure will also ensure that all the fire departments uphold the same safety measures or their employees and that none are favored by the fire prevention and safety codes than the others. The safety codes will also help in motivating the employees since none are favored than the others therefore promoting harmony among the employees.
Compliance to NFPA 1500 is very important in ensuring health and safety measures for the fire fighters. The fire fighters are always in the risk of being hurt by the fire incidences physically. The provisions of the NFPA 1500 outlines the safety measure that the fire fighters have to take when dealing with fire incidences so as to protect them from physical injuries from the fire incidences. The provisions of the NFPA 1500 outlines the requirements that have to be met for a standard of PPE missions for the firefighters, it therefore ensure that the welfare of the firefighters is taken care of and that their safety is prioritized in fire incident responses.
The differences among narrative information, advisories and warnings, and action messages can only be analyzed through their operational and structural definitions. Narrative information’s are informing statement wrote to the targeted audience to inform them of the incidence situations and usually offers the background information of the situation. Advisories are aimed at offering alternatives or the framework in which the incident objectives can be conducted (Waugh, 2015). Advisories are also attached to equipment’s to provide information on their right use to ensure that they last longer by minimizing wear and tear. Final, warnings are aimed at prohibiting the targeted individual’s from doing or from failure to do something which will have negative results on the whole process. Warnings are aimed at reducing the fatalities or to ensure the safety of the response teams.
The public needs to be updated on the proceeding of an emergency response, it is the role of the public information officer and a joint information system during an emergency situation to keep the public updated. The public depend on the information disseminated by the public officer on the figure and statistics of the incidence and eliminate any speculations of an incidence. The information is also very important for the social groups offering help to the affected individual’s by knowing the number and the impact of the incidence. The public information officer also puts the record straight to ensure that there would be no any conflicting information regarding the incidence.
