NR631 Phase 1: Assessment of the Problem and Influencing Factors

Purpose

The purpose of this alternate practicum experience is for you to apply practice-related competencies in the leadership an evidence-informed, planned change practicum project to improve health outcomes and/or healthcare delivery.

Through this activity, you will identify a problem and engage in the assessment of an actual or hypothetical problem, need, or opportunity for improvement. Variables that influence the problem will be examined, along with evidence-based strategies to address the concern. Based upon findings, a problem statement and specific, measurable, project outcomes will be determined.

You will have the opportunity to create an action plan that includes activities and interventions that are designed to facilitate achievement of the project outcomes. Projected costs for the planned change project will be budgeted; the actual cost and potential variance within the budget will be explored. Throughout the process, the influence of effective communication, influencing factors, and stakeholder engagement will be analyzed.

In addition, you will develop a plan for evaluation that will assess the achievement of project outcomes. Strategies to sustain outcomes of the planned change project will be considered.

Overview of the Alternative Practicum Experience

The  Planned Change Practicum Project  alternative experience involves a strategic approach allowing for you to engage in ongoing, congruent learning across several weeks.

· This process will involve 6 phases to facilitate learning as you systematically walk through a planned change practicum project.

· Each phase in the process will involve a variety of activities that contribute to the practicum time requirement for the course.

· Please note that this experience can be carried out when practicum mentor availability is not possible, and in situations where limited communication with a mentor is possible via phone, email, or other distance modalities.

· The planned change practicum project may address an actual or hypothetical problem, thereby accommodating students who have limited or no access to a practicum mentor or site.

· To facilitate your journey, you may find it helpful to review the appendices from the Johns Hopkins EBP Toolkit and two worksheets located in the Toolbox.

·

· Please note – Appendices B, G, I in particular will be addressed within the phases of this experience.

· The SWOT and Influencing Factors Worksheet and the Sustainability of the Planned Change Project Worksheet will also be addressed within the phases of this experience.
