Operationalizing the Health Education Standards

Standard

Identify and describe a learning activity for your topic.

1. Comprehend concepts

Show short video slides that explain the dangers of each drugs including how they affect one’s life and ability to do things with their life. This allows the students or people too see first how it affects people in real life. Comment: Remember, these are activities the students are asked to do. Showing a video is a teacher centered activity.

2. Analyze the influences of…

Show the medical reports of people who have died from tobacco use and using other drugs and have each person point out how their problem got to the point that was so bad they could not return.

3. Access valid information

Review peered reviewed papers and write an essay that explains the dives into why these articles are useful for the medical world or how they could help prevent someone from falling to the addiction of drugs

4. Interpersonal communication

I think I would have a survey that asked people if they have been affected by Tobacco or alcohol to determine, in my own area, see the percentage of people that are hurt by those drugs. I think that would help people better understand how serious the problem is.

5. Demonstrate Decision Making Skills

Observing things that the areas that have the highest percentage of this problem and noticed what might have caused those problems or what outside factors may have led to that area being more so harmed. Comment: What decision skills are being exhibited here?

6. Demonstrate Goal Setting Skills

I would then have the students look at the surveys and answer how we could better prevent more people from being harmed. Comment: What surveys?

7. Practice Health Enhancing Behavior

Have the students be placed in a group then to allow them to figure out how to implement those preventative measures and how they would fund them.

8. Advocate for Personal Health

Create a commercial with the students explaining the stats we found and how those kids are trying to make future generations of this area less harmed
