Introduction to Humanities
Dear Professor and classmates,
After several days of reading and reviewing this week assigned chapter, the inspiration piece that I fell in love with is the: Guitar, Sheet Music, and Wine Glass by Pablo Picasso (Sayre, 2013 p. 449). This particular art work is a result of a technique called collage made of 7 pieces of paper which were cut and pasted representing a guitar. According to our textbook, “Collage is the great equalizer in which all the elements are united on the same plane, both literal plane of the canvas and the figurative plane or reality” (Sayre, 2013 p. 448). Guitar, Sheet Music, and Glass illustrates many of the methods connected with Cubism showcasing a still life genre.
Guitar, Sheet Music, and Wine Glass.
Autumn 1912 by: Pablo Picasso
During the early 1900’s, Pablo Picasso along with his friend Georges Braque were looking for ways to break away from the realistic depictions of objects and landscape. To reach their goal, they created flat scene that amalgamate the subject and the surface as one to the point that the subject almost disappeared thus creating Cubism (Sayre, 2013 p.448).
In this particular collage, Picasso used traditional geometric shapes such as squares, rectangles, and circles. We can also appreciate a wallpaper, three colored facets /planes, part of a sheet music and a simulated faux-bois (wood grain). He also including flawed shapes like semi circles and rounded oblong figures. Picasso also uses various materials such as a newspaper, a piece of sheet music, wall paper, and a drawing of a wine glass in the piece. Collectively, the shapes and mediums create the portrayal of a guitar, an object that appears in much of Picasso’s work.
As a nurse, my inspiration makes me visualize the patient as the Guitar being made of a collage of the multidisciplinary team that works together to formulate and execute a holistic plan of care.
