PROJECT TITLE:
EXERCISES FOR IMPROVING TECHNICAL ELEMENTS AND SKILLS IN BASKETBALL
Group work
Project Summary
In this course we will cover only the basic technical elements of the most common team sports. These technical elements are very important for athletes to be successful. However, the technical elements are not the most important thing per se, but also the context of performance or the training environment. In this project, students will design and demonstrate drills for the three most important technical elements in basketball: Dribbling, Passing, and Shooting. To encourage creativity and critical thinking, students will face some environmental constraints in designing the training session.
There will be two deliverables for this project:
· Project Deliverable 1: Written Report (15%)
· Project Deliverable 2: Live Presentation and Demonstration (15%)

Title: EXERCISES FOR IMPROVING TECHNICAL ELEMENTS AND SKILLS IN BASKETBALL
Submission Due Date: WEEK 10 - Thursday December 1st 2022
Group work
Results and skills in any individual or team sport depend on a demanding and strenuous continuous training process. To develop their skills, athletes must perform different variations of exercises for the skills needed in their specific sport.
Your task is to create and describe an exercise for improving the following three skills in basketball:
1. Dribbling
2. Passing
3. Shooting
To complete this assignment, please follow the steps below:
· Read the material covered in the course (material provided on Moodle) and do additional research on the topic.
· Review the literature and internet sources to enhance your ideas. Be creative and thoughtful.
· Write down your opinion and rationale in your report. The report should be no less than 500 words and no more than 1000 words. Your report should include the following:
Cover page
· Name of the university
· Title of your report
· Course name, code, and section number
· Student name and university ID
· Name of professor
An Introduction (15 points)
In the Introduction, you are supposed to explain these three technical elements. Complete the following:
1. Define dribbling in basketball. Why is dribbling important? ( 5 points)
2. Define passing in basketball. Why is it important and what types of passing exist? ( 5 points)
3. Define shooting in basketball. Why is it important and what types of shooting exist? ( 5 points)
Main Body (75 points)
In the Main Body, you are supposed to make and describe one drill for dribbling, one for passing, and one for shooting. Be creative!
Include one paragraph for each drill (three paragraphs - 25 points per drill/paragraph). To complete these assignments, you should write about the following things for each drill/paragraph:
1. What is the goal of the exercise? ( 5 points)
2. What is the starting position? Write about the starting position of the players, cones, and other relevant information. ( 5 points)
3. How does the exercise work? What do the players do during the drill to achieve the goal? Optional: You may also indicate incorrect execution of the exercise. ( 5 points)
4. What is the end of the exercise? When does the exercise stop? ( 5 points)
5. Graphical illustration of each exercise. ( 5 points)
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
You can use the basketball field templates with a legend (how to label specific elements in your graphic illustrations) at the end of this document to draw exercises. You can also draw the illustrations by hand and insert them into the file as images.
Layout (10 points)
Clearly mark the different parts of your assignment: Cover page, Introduction, and Main Body (three paragraphs – Dribbling, Passing, Shooting). The layout of the graphic illustrations will also be graded (positions, transitions, arrows, use of the legend provided, and overall layout).
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
· Type your essay using the template MS Word document provided on your Moodle and submit the PDF file to Turnitin .
· Handwritten submissions will not be accepted.
· Do not submit the instructions to Turnitin to avoid increasing the similarity grade.

Project Deliverable 2: Live Presentation and Demonstration
Weight: 15 %
Due Date: WEEK 12 – Thursday December 15th 2022
Project Deliverable 2 will consist of live presentation and demonstration of the drills explained and drawn as the Deliverable 1.
The requirements for the presentation:
1. A different number of students may be involved in the demonstration of the exercise, while only one member will explain each exercise:
a. First member will explain drill for Dribbling,
b. Second member will explain drill for Passing, and
c. Third member will explain drill for Shooting.
2. Members will have 1 minute to prepare the court (set the cones) and position themselves for performing each drill. In total, a group will have around 10 minutes to present and perform all three drills.
3. In the beginning of each drill, the one member will first explain the exercise and then all members will demonstrate the drill. Afterwards, all students will perform the exercise under the supervision of the assigned student presenting the drill. Assigned member can explain the exercise also during the performance (this is desirable).
4. At the beginning of each exercise, one member first explains the exercise, then all group members (or other students, depending on the number of participants) perform the exercise. The assigned student may also explain the exercise during the demonstration (this is desirable). Then all students perform the exercise under the supervision of the assigned student who demonstrates the exercise.
5. Explanation of exercise should include the following:
a. What is the goal of the exercise?
b. What is the starting position of the players, cones, and other relevant information?
c. How does the exercise work? What do the players do during the drill to achieve the goal? Optional: You may also indicate incorrect execution of the exercise.
d. What is the end of the exercise? When does the exercise stop?
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
It is your responsibility to check the equipment available to you at the sports center to perform your exercises. Try to be creative and do exercises to develop and improve the three technical elements and crucial skills for the game of basketball mentioned above.
Live presentation and demonstration will be graded individually for each member of the group according to the following grading rubric.
