GROUP WORK

Summary

In this course we will cover only the basic technical elements of the most common individual sports. These technical elements are very important for athletes to be successful. However, the technical elements are not the most important thing per se, but also the context of performance or the training environment. In this assignment students will design and demonstrate drills for improving the technique and the performance of some discipline of the track and Field. To encourage creativity and critical thinking, students will face some environmental constraints in designing the training session.

TITLE: EXERCISES FOR IMPROVING THE TECHNIQUE AND THE PERFORMANCE IN SOME OF

THE DISCIPLINES OF TRACK AND FIELD

SUBMISSION DUE DATE: WEEK 4 – OCTOBER 20TH /2022

GROUP WORK

We know how attractive the Olympic games are. The queen of the sports there is the Athletics. It is very dynamic, attractive and shows us the evolution of the capabilities of the human body over the last century. To complete this assignment, please follow the steps below:

• Read the material covered in the course (material provided on Moodle) and do additional research on the topic.

• Read the presentations shown in class to enhance your ideas (links can be found with the presentations on Moodle).

• Write down your opinion and rationale in your report. The report should be no less than 500 words and no more than 1000 words. Your report should include the following:

Cover page

• Name of the university

• Title of your report

• Course name, code, and section number

• Student name and university ID

• Name of professor

An Introduction (20 points) In the Introduction you are supposed to write about the following:

1. Athletics as the queen of sports. Write a paragraph about athletics as a sport in general. Write about basic historical information. Indicate how many disciplines and what are the disciplines in athletics, etc. (10 points)

2. Focus on the discipline you are going to your presentation on. Write a few sentences about this particular discipline, the rules, the number competitors, and some of the major results. (10 points)

Provide at least 1 citation in the Introduction section. Main Body – Part 1 (20 points) The Main Body is divided into two parts. In the first part, you should write a paragraph about the historic evolution of the discipline, about the basic techniques and the world record holder ( 3 paragraphs) Provide at least 3 citations in the Main Body - Part 1 section. Main body – Part 2 (40 points) In the second part of the Main Body, you should write description of 3 exercises from your discipline improving certain technique ( at least 1 ) or the strength of the athlete practicing it. You should attach a graphical illustration for all exercises. Conclusion (10 points) Summarize your work explaining why the athletics keeps millions of people watching it and attending any kind of track and field events. References and Citations (5 points) At least 4 credible citations within the text and 4 credible references, and in APA style at the end of the report. Layout (5 points) Clearly mark the different parts of your assignment: Cover page, Introduction, Main Body – Part 1 (three paragraphs), Main Body – Part 2, Conclusion, and References. The graphical illustrations are mandatory since you are going to present your practical assignment based on them. Including relevant figures or tables is also desirable (not mandatory). • Type your essay using the template MS Word document provided on your Moodle

and submit the PDF file to Turnitin.

• Handwritten submissions will not be accepted.

• Do not submit the instructions to Turnitin to avoid increasing the similarity grade.

• You can cite your sources (article, book, online, library) in APA style using

https://www.mybib.com/#/ or refer to the AUM Writing Lab.

Claim/Focus: Relevant and appropriate answers with accurate information. Support/Evidence: Theory from external sources (textbook, articles, websites) is integrated appropriately. Organization: The submission presents ideas in a logical structure. The student presents his/her personal point of view and is able to write relevant examples. Language: The student communicates ideas using formal language and vocabulary specific to the topic. Originality: The answers are original and written by the student. External sources are properly cited in text and referenced at the end of the paper. PLAGIARISM In case of plagiarism, you will receive an email to resubmit your work, with the following rule:

• Resubmission within 24h from email notification: 40% deduction

• Resubmission within 48h from email notification: 60% deduction.

• Failing to resubmit within two days after notification means that the assessment will be awarded 0.

LATE SUBMISSION After the submission deadline, students have a maximum 2-days grace period for late submissions with the following penalty (excluding Fridays):

• first day, within 24h from the deadline, 40% deduction

• second day, within 48h from the deadline, 60% deduction.

• Failing to submit within two days after notification means that the assessment will be awarded 0.

The Written Report will be graded as a group work according to the following grading rubric.

ASSIGNMENT 3 : LIVE PRESENTATION AND DEMONSTRATION

WEIGHT: 15 %

Assignment 3 will consist of live presentation and demonstration of the drills for one of the disciplines in Track and Field, which you explained and presented graphically in Assignment 2 . The requirements for the presentation: You should customize a model training for 1 discipline of the Track and Field including 3 drills for improving the technique or the power of the athlete. You may ask if you need some equipment like cones, hurdles, starting blocks speed sacs (training sled), medicine ball, weights, dumbbells, measuring tape . For each drill you should answer how it helps the athlete to improve his technique or power of performance.

1. A different number of students may be involved in the demonstration of the exercise, while only one member will explain each exercise:

a. First member will explain the 1st drill b. Second member will explain the 2nd drill c. Third member will explain the 3rd drill

2. Members will have 1 minute to prepare the court (set the equipment) and position themselves for performing each drill. In total, a group will have around 10 minutes to present and perform all three kind of drills.

3. At the beginning of each exercise, one member first explains the exercise, then all

group members (or other students, depending on the number of participants) perform the exercise. The assigned student may also explain the exercise during the demonstration (this is desirable). Then all students perform the exercise under the supervision of the assigned student who demonstrates the exercise.

4. Explanation of exercise should include the following:

a. What is the goal of the exercise? b. What is the starting position of the players, cones, and other relevant

information? c. How does the exercise work? What do the players do during the drill to achieve

the goal? Optional: You may also indicate incorrect execution of the exercise. d. What is the end of the exercise? When does the exercise stop?

IMPORTANT INFORMATION It is your responsibility to check the equipment available to you at the sports center to perform your exercises. Try to be creative and do exercises to develop and improve the technique and the power of the athletes.

Live presentation and demonstration will be graded individually for each member of the

group according to the following grading rubric.
