My choice of topic for persuasive speech that I will prepare is “Why is homework important”. I chose this topic because it would play an important role on undergraduate college students because most students have not had the chance of understanding why homework is always administered yet they feel it does not help them a lot. The topic would enable students to understand why they need a reinforcement tool so as to promote better grasp on their schoolwork. As the saying goes practice make perfect, so when students are given work to do at home, it helps them to have a better learning experience outside the classrooms. Undergraduate college students are given homework to do and are expected to submit them back at a specified time. These requirements therefore promote good use of time and working smart so as to finish the work on time. However it also helps undergraduate college students to be prepared for their future lives, since they acquire good habits and skills in studying which are positive.

Furthermore there are also informative texts on the importance of homework, for instance a text authored by Cauley and McMillan (2009), who gave definitions for formative assessment. The author explains on the importance of promoting the use of feedback as a way of motivating the student. (Cauley & McMillan, 2009, p. 3) The author also mentions that formative assessment is a process whereby, assessment can be done on whether the student is learning. McTighe and O’Connor (2005) also mentions of the seven ways that are necessary for effective learning. (McTighe and O’Connor, 2005) The author explains on the important tasks that are necessary for achieving a goal which can be reasonable to a student. The author provides a guide for both teacher and students on the best form of effective learning.
