Transition & Preview of Main Point #1: So, your first stop should be to check out Starved Rock State Park

Support/Discuss Main Point #1.

Wave the skyscrapers of Chicago good-bye as you head out of the city about 100 miles southwest down interstate 80 to Starved Rock State Park. Nancy Hill Barta describes the beauty of the park in her book titled, “Starved Rock State Park,” noting that the park covers more than 2,600 acres with over 13 miles of hiking trails in the park. Many of the trails are paved and clearly marked so no worries for the inexperienced city slicker. The trails vary in length and intensity, so there is something for all skill levels. But the real beauty is what awaits you at the end of the trails. There are amazing canyon views and scenic stops overlooking the beautiful Illinois River, and the best part….there are waterfalls. Yes, multiple waterfalls to check out. Who says you need to go to Hawaii to see all that nature has to offer? Here are some pictures of the amazing views of the different falls. SHOW PICTURES OF WILDCAT CANYON WATERFALL and FRENCH CANYON. SRSS is great for all seasons. From the beautiful flowers blooming in the spring to the amazing crisp colors of the fall leaves, to snowshoeing in the winter, there is always something going on no matter what time of year you come. Transition & Preview Main Point #2: Next, you can take a tour of charming Utica, IL.

On your way to visit SSSP, you will pass through the quaint, charming town of Utica, IL. Utica, IL is located on the North bank of the Illinois River while SSSP is just to the south. You can check out all of the things to do by heading to Utica-IL.com, the town’s official website. According to the site, there are about 1,000 residents of this small town, which makes you feel like you are a million miles away from the craziness of “big city” life. One of the highlights I encourage you to stop by is Duffy’s Tavern and Grill located on the corner of the “main drag” through the downtown, on Canal Street. (SHOW PICTURE OF DUFFY’S & THE MAIN STREET) It’s located in a cute building with a lot of Midwestern charm. Here is a picture of the main street which is only one block long. Duffy’s has anything and everything you could want to eat after a long day of hiking trails and working up an appetite with classic American cuisine. Stroll along and browse for trinkets in the gift and antique shops, or stop in the historical museum highlighting the rich Native American history of the area. You can’t go wrong spending a nice leisurely afternoon seeing all that Utica has to offer. (3:50)
