The use of mobile phones while driving has increased in the recent past. Consequently, many accidents occur on the roads and claim the lives of people and destruction of their property. However, the mobile phones are important and in the present world, it is impossible to live without the gadgets. In short, the devices are part of the human life and they find application in many areas. The police department that deals with ensuring safety on the roads has the task to facilitate change and assure the road users are protected and safe to reach their destinations in time (Rakauskas, et al 2016). Additionally, for the achievement of success in ensuring that the distractions while driving are stopped, there is a need for cooperation of the authorities, the car manufacturers, and the drivers or road users. In this paper, we shall look at the solutions to the cellphone distractions on the roads and the advantages of the solutions.

One of the solutions to mobile phone distractions is pulling off the road and stopping at convenient stopovers. The drivers will have the chance to use the phones without worrying about the signs or other road users. As such, the authorities should instruct the contractors to include the provisions such areas whenever possible. For instance, the areas to pull off should be built after a certain distance so that the drivers can use stop at will. The governments should allocate some amount of money to construct the areas for stopping at various points in the already constructed. Additionally, the contractors should be trained on how to build the facilities, as they will significantly reduce the accidents caused by phone distractions (Nasar, & Troyer, 2013). Another solution to the cellphone distractions is for the drivers to liaise with people sitting next to them. Such individuals will operate the gadgets on behalf of the drivers. As such, if one is driving a personal car, they should carry with them other persons who will help them in using the phones. Many drivers conduct business with their devices and hence it is hard for them to do without the device for a long time. As such, the individuals sitting next to them should help them in operating or transacting the business without any delay. However, such people must be one that the driver will trust and not get to the personal data or application.

Another way to solve the distraction challenge on the roads is by incorporating a software in the cars that lock off the phone. The software will be able to detect that the cellphone is in the car and hence it will lock the phone until when the driver gets out of the car (Green, 2014). However, the software should only detect such while in the driver’s seat or in its vicinity. Such technology will not deny the passengers their rights to communicate and use the mobile phones. As such, the drivers’ phone will be locked during the entire time in the car. Finally, it is the responsibility of every passenger to ensure that the drivers are not getting distracted as they may cause accidents. Therefore, they should speak up against the individual drivers who use their phones while carrying them. The passengers will instruct the drivers not to use the gadgets as they may lead to accidents. The action shows that everybody is committed to ensuring the safety of the roads and hence preventing the loss of lives and destructions of properties.

The solutions provided will save the lives of many people who use the roads either using cars or other means of transport. According to the research conducted, about fifty thousand people lose their lives on roads due reckless driving and distractions caused by the use of cell phones (Green, 2014). Therefore, if the solutions will be implemented fully, the number will significantly reduce. The children will not be separated from their parents prematurely and thus they will enjoy the family love that has been taken away by the numerous accidents.

The property destructions will as well be reduced significantly. Whenever the accidents happen, individuals always lose their properties and hence ensuring safety on the roads will be a great advantage to them. The car owners that get involved in the accidents undergo much destruction that leads to the use of many resources that can be used in another form of development agendas. Therefore, stopping or reducing the accidents is likely to improve the economic status of many people whose properties would have been destroyed by the accidents.

Another advantage of taking the proposed measures to reduce the effects caused by mobile phone distractions is that there will be the advancement of technology in the nation. According to Troyer, the proposed software that locks the drivers’ cellphone while driving is a great innovation and opens room for more research (Nasar, & Troyer, 2013). For instance, it may be used to only limit certain application and allowing the people sited next to the drivers to help them operate certain activities through the phone. Therefore, the solution opens-up the room for more inventions to deal with the challenges of mobile distraction on the roads.
