Persuasive Essay

Choose an issue from one of the four questions below and persuade (convince) your audience.

Create a thesis statement that gives your position (side) on the issue. You will prove why your side

is right or better than the opposing side. You cannot “sit on the fence”; you have to pick a side and

cannot write on both sides of the prompt. Hint: Assume that you are in a debate and you are

defending your team, hoping to defeat your opponents.

You must do an effective job supporting your points/side. Remember that your goal is still to

convince your audience that your perspective is true, better, or right/correct. However, you need

to do this in a certain way that will make the audience want to listen to what you have to say. Your

reasoning must be logical and should not contain “over the kitchen table” (shallow) argument.

Requirements:

Write a five-paragraph essay between 400 - 600 words (excluding the heading).

This essay will be in MLA format: Times New Roman Font 12. While formatting your paper, follow the essay sample format in your Canvas files.

You must give your writing a title.

Use third person; this is a formal, academic writing and third person is the most appropriate point of view.

You will not use secondary sources (research) in this essay. You will write your own views/opinions.

4. Write a five-paragraph essay which explains why female genital mutilation should be annihilated. Your three body paragraphs will highlight the dangers and effects of the practice,

convincing your audience that the practice is evil and should be eliminated globally?
