Persuasive Essay
Georgia ‘Living Infants Fairness and Equality (LIFE) Act’ (House Bill 481)
Position:
HB 481 strips away a woman's own personal rights decisions regarding her life and her unborn infants’ life.
Audience:
Goal
The goal of this paper is to persuade the law makers to throw out the HB 481, revise and update the current abortion laws and make it required for insurance companies to have a plan in place for planned parenthood, contraceptives and abortions. Having an abortion should be safe and private for each woman facing that decision.
Supporting Points
1. The new law prohibits abortion only up to 6 weeks of pregnancy, a time when most women especially teenagers would not know that they were pregnant. Most women won't realize they are pregnant until after their first missed period which is usually 6-8 weeks after conceiving.
2. The new law only makes an exception for incest and rape only when a police report is filed and/or when a woman's life and health are at risk but there are several other reasons that a woman may want to terminate a pregnancy and those reasons should be taken into consideration as well.
3. There should not be a room full of men or a room of majority men making laws and policies on women's health and rights. Especially, when we are still living in times where women are still fighting for equality when compared to men in the world.
