Persuasive email
Description
Write one of the two messages below:
Letter: Requesting a football player to take a pay cut
You are the President of the football club FC STARS, and you are being asked reduce wages given the loss in profits due to COVID-19. Many fans did not renew their season tickets and for the whole year 2020-21, no extra spectators were allowed. You will be asking your whole team to take a pay-cut, but you would like your star player Mark Lopes to take a 30% cut firstly to set an example. In return, you would give him positive press and you hope the cuts will be temporary.
Your Task: Write a letter to Mr George Menzies, the player’s agent, requesting that he take the 30% pay cut.
Email: No communication outside working hours:
One of the many side effects of the smartphone is that people are now constantly accessible by email, text, and telephone. Your workplace is increasingly demanding you to answer emails and be connected at the weekend/after working hours. You’ve recently read some articles about a law that was passed in France protecting workers’ “right to disconnect”, which prohibits work-related emails, phone calls and other communication outside working hours. You think this may help mitigate the recent problems with employee morale you have noticed as Human Resources Manager. You have taken a survey of workers who would be able to benefit from such policy, and 85% of them feel like it would be a step in the right direction.
Your Task: Write a persuasive email to your boss, Ms. Anna Simpson to persuade her that workers should not be asked to connect outside their working hours.
