I am applying to your Master of Science in Athletic Administration program with the goal
of building on my previous experiences and preparing for my career. I have recently
received my Bachelor of Arts degree in General Studies /Sports Managements from
Southern New Hampshire University. Due to my strong interest in sports, I received the
opportunity to do my internship with several universities' athletic departments. I had the
chance to learn how each department functions on a day-to-day basis and was able to
develop a good relationship with faculty and staff. From this experience, I combined my
years of coaching and mentoring student athletes to become successful.
I would like to acquire a more thorough understanding of Athletic Administration through
the Masters of Science in Athletic Administration in your graduate program. I would like
to fill the gap and gain more knowledge through advanced studies. In order to build a
broader perspective and more practical skills, I served as a Teaching Assistant in the
public school system as well as a coach on different sports teams. In addition, I am a
member of the NIAAA and NFHS athletic organizations, and I collaborated with other
members, coaches and athletic directors to help with ideas to drive education and
sports in a different direction.
As mentioned above, my career goals began to really take shape during my last
internship with the marketing and sponsorship department at one of the universities I
visited. They help me to organize and implement conferences, networking and
fundraising. I was also responsible for promoting activities, contacting students and
teachers along with alumni to arrange various activities. In the process of working on
these events, I developed my leadership and organizational skills, and I have gained
some insight into what I expect to do for my future career.
Now, I believe that I am well-prepared for the challenge in the MS in Athletic
Administration graduate program. I am currently working at a High School as a Security
Assistant which gives me a chance to work around high school students during different activities and sporting events. I am eager to contribute my knowledge and experiences
to the students who will continue learning how to use their talents. After completing my
studies, I hope to gain a place within the athletic department on the university or high
school level.
My goal is to combine college athletic experience with the public schools’ athletics. I
believe this will give all college students who major in sports management an
opportunity to explore both sides of athletics. My intent is to create a hybrid program for
the students. I want to build a relationship with the local colleges/universities and set up
services for students who will pursue a degree in sports management. Accomplishing
these goals will require advanced management abilities, and thus I find your Master’s
program an ideal setting to further my studies.
