Statement of Purpose

I am Denise a digital marketing and social network manager at Al-Jazeera Paints Company and a

graduate student who holds a Master’s degree from University of Central Florida . My career goal

is to lead and improve the digital marketing in the business and also to contribute to the public

community by creating a free-ads service for the public . I truly believe that the main problem

with digital marketing is the influence of the money and people in the business and public choice.

My research interest will be to build a mechanism to establish a collaborative system that provide

advertising service to the public for free by automating the information retrieval from social

media and global databases to provide the authentic and genuine ads that is independently

generated without being subjective or biased.

My passion toward the digital marketing and e-commerce started early in 2010 when I started

my Independent Business. I realized how much is important to advertise for your service and

product because it’s the first step to draw people attention to your product not matter how much

quality in this product or service. I tried to apply all the business concepts that I studies during

my Bachelor Degree. However, I was always missing part where computer science involved. It

was a barrier for me to understand how digital marketing, web application, data science,

recommendation systems, internet ads work unless I step in the computer science field. This is

what drive me to purse a master’s degree in E- commerce where I was trying to take all courses

and involved in all projects that will make me overcome this barrier.

In 2014, I started my master’s Degrees in E-Commerce and I was carefully selecting the courses

in my plan to offset all technical skills that I was lacking during my independent business

because I realize that I need to overcome this lack of skills in order to advance in my career. I

took both courses introduction to Computer Science and Management information system in my

first term which helped me to transfer smoothly from Business Administrator Major to E-

Commerce Major where computer Science involved. Also, I realized how much security is

important for ads and digital marketing because no one is willing to trust a digital marketing

system if they cannot feel secure using it. That is why I took Information security course.

However, the biggest barrier for me at that time was to understand how web application and

database work. This question was always in mind each time I use Facebook, twitter or Google

ads. How can I automate the data retrieval without manual intervention? Is this possible through

Information System? Programming for internet and Database systems were the two courses that I

was looking for to answer these questions. During these courses I learned a lot about it. When I

finished my master’s degree in 2016 I felt that I am ready to start implementing everything I

learned in Information System that I was lacking to implement my ideas practicality in the

business and the result following my Master’s Degree was amazing.

In October 2016, I joined Al Jazeera Paints Company which one of the top companies in Saudi

Arabia and Middle east that has over $39.4 Million annual revenue and more than 5000

employees. I was very impetuous and passionate to implement what I have learned during my

master’s degrees. Despite all obstacles and challenges that I faced at the beginning, I was able to

bring and initiate the change in this company by leading the effort of digital marketing. The

shifting the occurred in the company from using the conventional marketing strategy to the

digital marketing shows amazing results. For example, by the end of 2017 the sales increased by

% 40 as of result of the effort of digital marketing team. However, I was always believing that

any change should be collaboratively implemented in the business with my teammate. That’s

why I suggested to my management to create a new team for digital marketing for first time in

this company that established in 1979. The company promoted me to be the leader of this team

in 2016 where I lead ten people under my management even though my experience at that time

was only 2 years.

However, during my work in the private sector I was looking forward to contributing in some

way to the recent innovation and technology in the digital marketing. In February 2018 the

government announce a new scholarship program for student who is not currently employed, and

E-Commerce was one of the major that they were looking for. As result, I made my decision to

resign from my company despite the high salary that I was earned because I was looking to be in

the other part where I can contribute to research community in Computer/ Security Science field

especially for the public community.

Finally I am looking forward for the decision to accept me at The university of Colorado

Colorado Springs. I studied my choice carefully about this university
