Personal Philosophy on Recreation
My philosophy of leisure and recreation is very essential to me and my lifestyle. These concepts may be different in their definition by, in reality, they exist together in my world. Leisure can be defined as the free time one may have upon which he or she can utilize to act on other things which are not a routine(2012). Thus is time without obligation of doing a specific task or no task at all as a person is not under compulsion to act. On the other hand, recreation can be defined as the expeditions and experiences one chooses to engage when they have free time. Thus recreation occurs because of having a leisure time which can be utilized for things such as playing and hiking and so on. Today where technology has advanced making people engage less in physical activities that it was some generation back, recreation is forming a very important role in cognitive, physical, and social health, and at the same time it is eliminating the essentiality of economic standing.
Generally, I engage in recreation during my leisure time due to some of the perceived benefits to my well being from social to health to economic consideration. First, my recreation philosophy is influenced much by the concept of a healthy lifestyle. Recreational activities help me relax by pacifying my nerves, wellness and also helps me in conserving equilibrium after venting out tension. There is also the health benefit of reducing stress attributed to recreation and also helps create a better mood (Goodman, Geiger, & Wolf, 2016).
The other attributes of recreation that motivate me are the social benefits I gain from interacting with a like-minded friend who we build a strong relationship with. Walking and engaging with friends who challenge one to do better is most essential as these friends come to us with mutually beneficial activities and ideas which help me achieve the thing I could not have achieved with their advice. Some of these activities may include welfare groups and other socially beneficial programs which engage with to make the world a better place during my free time. Thus their great life satisfaction and my quality of life feel improved when I engage in leisure and recreation activities (Li,& Wang 2011).
When I engage in leisure and recreational activities, I know I am also helping build our economy in one way or the other. When I visit a national park and pay some entrance fee I know I am contributing towards preserving the ecosystems, when I visit the restaurant I know I am contributing towards someone's salary and as a citizen am doing part of building the economy directly or indirectly. More so, I am interested in politics and how the country is being run by the policymakers and there is no better time to catch up on all this during leisure and recreation times. Being lost in daily duties and other essentials tasks, one may lose track of time and on what the government and the political world stand for. Recreation helps us engage in a lot of debates involving all aspects of life and keeps us informed on what is happening in the outer world. More so, to my leisure and recreation impact by culture in that I learn from others when we intermingle. If there is a place where people interact without caring the race, ethnicity or other human factors which tends to separate people is through leisure and recreational activities as we make friends more than we make enemies
Generally, I cannot pinpoint specific activities I can state I engage with for leisure and recreation as they are many. I believe in the philosophy of engaging and trying different things as long as I have time and I can afford it if it is traveling, entrance fees, or other users. This time I would go to the beach, next time I go to the national park, other times I engage in community work or even engage in plays for body exercises which are all essential to me. My philosophy about recreation is keeping life interesting instead of boring by engaging in any activity that is risk-free, harmless, and the one that will impact me, my society, and my country positively.
Conclusion
To achieve all these I have created my philosophy of creation in different steps starting by highlighting some of the recreational activities I like to engage with which include playing, nature walks, swimming, visiting ecosystems, moves, engaging in community programs, and intermingling. All these I do them interchangeably to make life as interesting as possible. More so I have also defined my boundaries of recreation where I dedicate my free time towards leisure and recreation. I also experiment with different activities to see what works for me, as not all activities that may fit everyone when it comes to leisure and recreation, for instance, am not much into mountain climbing. More so, I like to verbalize with individuals I love when it comes to leisure and recreation as they make the whole process very magnificent.
