Personal Narrative Assignment.

The Heart That Expresses Gratitude Is a Happy One

Giving thanks is an urgent duty that everybody needs to attend to. I always believed that

self-care is important, especially in today’s world with numerous stressors. However, I had never

gotten a chance to give myself the self-care I always desired. My dream of vacation and fashion

venture was shattered when the pandemic hit the world. However, I am grateful to my father for

facilitating a trip to Bali to unwind and vacation and setting up a meeting with my mentor, who

inspired me to push forward with my fashion dream.

As a child, my dream had always been to be successful in the fashion field, even though

not as my major. My father has always been aware of my passion for this dream because I would

participate in fashion contests any chance I got, in school and within my community. My mentor

was my neighbor’s daughter, who is doing very well in fashion with a big fashion house and

great looks that make it even to the magazines. Even though the pandemic, her work was still

greatly appreciated, and she sold her clothes online, still making a profit. My father always knew

I adored her work and aspired to make my fashion work greater than hers. However, it was very

challenging contacting her since she lived in a different state and rarely came home, and if she

did, they mostly went away to spend quality time in their holiday home. So, my father surprised

me with a meeting with her to share our passion for fashion over a cup of coffee. “The best

advice I can give you right now is to be daring.”

(Not sure what she meant). “What do you mean by that?”

“Take everything head-on, navigate through the storm, always be sure of your power

against every challenge. Fashion is about standing out, so go for that designs you think would be

controversial and watch the world appreciate it with awe.”

This was the best advice o had ever had. It made me feel powerful, and I decided to be more

intentional about my talent. I am now running a small fashion business with the vision of

becoming the best in the next three years.

In my teenage years, I watched bloggers travel the world and give themselves time to re-

energize. I had been working part-time and going to school for three years straight. I barely had a

chance to take care of myself and give my mind some time off the stress. The pandemic

worsened my situation because I was worried about school arrangements. We were laid off at my

part-time job since only a few employees would be in the building due to social distancing

measures, while some work online. My father was very worried about me and knew how much I

had always wanted to go to Bali and have the time of my life. Therefore, he surprised me with a

fully catered vacation. I went there with my best friend, and I realized how much mental stress I

had been carrying. It was beautiful, swimming in the magnificent pools, enjoying the sun, and

visiting the stunning beaches. We also had time to visit their sacred rivers and secret canyons.

After the trip, I had released all the stress and was motivated to chase my dream instead of being

gloomy about losing my last job. I decided to delve fully into fashion and start my thriving small

business.

I am very grateful to a father who looks out for my career and personal needs. He was

able to see that I had the motivation to pick up myself and be great by setting up a meeting with

my mentor and giving me a chance o ease my mind. As much as we all want to be great in

everything we do, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy; I am a true testimony for this.
