PART IV – Paper OR narrated, online presentation (you must be visible)

Due July 1, 2023.

Paragraph 1: UPDATE ANY CHANGES TO YOUR LEARNING BELIEFS

· Take a few minutes and review the first paragraph from your Part II/III assignment personal learning theory – initial paragraph and template assignment that you completed June 17, 2023.

· 1st paragraph [UPDATE] – Describe your fundamental belief(s) for effective learning. This time this paragraph should include the link between your beliefs and how your learning theory best fits with those beliefs. So, you should include your chosen learning theory and theorist.

· Does it still make sense to you? Do you still believe what you wrote? Anything to add or change? If you are like most students, you will probably find that your learning beliefs are still very relevant, but that your ideas of them have deepened a bit more. That is a good thing!

For this assignment you will add:

· 2nd and 3rd paragraph [NEW] – You will provide two paragraphs (at least 6 sentences each) on the following:

· A biography of the theorists in reference and the importance of this person’s work in reference to the discipline of education . Do not put the life history of the theorist in your paper/presentation. Put relevant information about the theorist as it relates to his/her work with the theory. It should not include a lot of personal facts that are not pertinent to the person’s theory.

· Key ideas, concepts, vocabulary, and basic assumptions related to the theorists’ ideologies (beliefs of the theorist and recommended practices). Important terms must be defined, and limitations of the theories discussed.

· 4th and 5th [NEW] – You will provide two paragraphs (at least 6 sentences each) on the following:

· This part of your paper/presentation should be describing how your learning theory relates to and can be used for effective teaching and learning in the classroom. Describe a specific lesson that you will teach or classroom situations that illustrate your learning theory. You must describe what aspects of the theory are evident with the scenario or lesson.

***Important Note***

For Paragraphs 4 and 5: Describe a specific lesson/classroom situations that illustrate your learning theory

The most difficult aspect of writing the 3rd paragraph is being able to incorporate the learning theory’s concepts and vocabulary and connect it to your learning belief.

So, say I chose information processing theory, this is one in our book, but not one you could choose for this assignment. This could be an example in my 4th/5th paragraph.

· For example, if you think that effective learning occurs when students are having fun, you can certainly make a connection between that idea and information processing theory where memory begins when students pay attention to a stimulus. Students having fun, most likely are placing their attention on the learning stimulus which allows processing of information to occur, and then you can start talking about sensory, working, and long-term memory.

Options for submission

Both options must have evidence of reference to a minimum of 3 scholarly sources (peer-reviewed journal articles or books-either textbook or the theorist as primary author) cited both in the presentation and in a reference list at the end of the paper and/or presentation. You may also include Online sources, but these should be in addition to your THREE journal articles or textbook references.

Option 1:

Research paper

Use APA guidelines: Paper is grammatically correct, free of spelling errors and follows APA 7th edition guidelines includes a title page, introduction (sentence or two); your 5 sections in the body of the paper with proper headers (all at least 6 sentences each), a conclusion and a reference page. References are correctly formatted in APA 7th style.

Option 2:

A screenshot of a computer Description automatically generated with medium confidence

You can choose to create/develop a narrated, online, presentation consisting of all the components of the paper (you must be visible on the video, so similar to our free Kaltura Capture feature here at Clayton State or Microsoft Teams video; Prezi (but again you must be visible as well); if you have other preferences, you must clear this with me because I must be able to view your video.

This option is a presentation, not a written assignment, therefore each slide using any technology presentation method may have a maximum of 20 words. It is your explanation and discussion that demonstrate your research and understanding. Reading content taken from another source word for word, or simply reading the words on the slides does not support a proficient personal presentation. You must be well read on the theorists and be able to discuss the assignments requirements in your own words, paraphrasing what you have researched and learned. Not that you must include your citations anytime you summarize/paraphrase or take a direct of the authors work on the slide.

See the grading rubric in another document and attached to the assignment within the submission drop box.

Save your assignment with your name in the saved title: For example, sharrenthomaspersonaltheorypt5

More about Clayton State’s Kaltura Capture feature. You can find it as a tab within our class. If you choose this option, it is vital that you view the tutorial videos. See below instructions.

2. Please look over all student videos before you attempt this assignment. You will not give me a link when you submit to the drop box, but you will attach this video as an embedded video. Again, all this is explained in the tutorials. There are videos that contain tutorial videos. There are 8 to 11 of them I would like you to view ALL.

3. This is how to access the tutorials.

a. First log into D2L

b. At the top, click the tab Kaltura Video,

c. Then the tab to media space,

f. You will see 11 videos, how to use Kaltura Capture and how to attach your video to your assignment in the D2L drop box.

4. Finally, before you submit your embedded video, you must publish your Kaltura Capture Video, or I will not be able to open it. This is explained in one of the tutorials in the video that discusses submitting your Kaltura Video to the assignment/submission box.

5. Also, remember the HUB can also help, but you can’t wait until the last minute and you must get help when they are open.
