Personal Leadership Philosophies
My Core Values
The method a person decides to act is referred to as their philosophy. Personal philosophies differ from person to person. The essential values of a person are the foundation of their ideology. My leadership philosophy is based on a number of fundamental principles. Empathy is one of the main principles of my leadership philosophy. In my opinion, empathy is essential in creating and establishing meaningful relationships among my peers. Compassionate leadership is a crucial component of effective leadership. Another one of resilience. Leaders face numerous problems, and part of leadership is the ability to guide your team while weathering the storms. This is why I value resilience highly. These two represent my basic principles and are integral to my leadership.
Vision and Mission Statement
I envision creating a serene, welcoming space where empathy and understanding may grow. I envision a setting where individuals engage in deeper conversation, form lasting relationships, and respect diverse opinions. I promote empathy and resilience via my behavior and leadership. I will support and encourage my team to reach its greatest potential. By creating a supportive and loving community, I want to influence change and leave a lasting effect on those around me.
My mission is to show them kindness, actively listen, and try to understand them. I am committed to leading a resilient and compassionate life. I want to foster a sense of inclusion and belonging through the development of meaningful relationships. Using my strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, I will take on problems and explore creative solutions that help people and communities. I will handle shifting situations and continue to develop as a person with attention to detail and adaptability. By encouraging empathy, resilience, and understanding and motivating others to do the same, I am committed to making a big difference in the world.
CliftonStrengths Assessment Summary
The CliftonStrengths for Students provided very key insights into my personality. I learned that I portray Relator and Includer traits, with some elements of being Analytical, Connectedness, and Strategic. This means that I have a preference for establishing relationships that are deep and meaningful and that are based on trust. I am also naturally inclined to embrace others and include them in my plans. I also learned that despite being interpersonal, I could be connected and analytical if needed (Macfarlane & Carson, 2023). I can also design strategies to help guide the team when needed and my team needs a way forward.
Behaviors I Need to Strengthen
One of the behaviors I need to strengthen is attention to detail. I realized I have focused more on individual relationships and forgotten to focus on my attention to detail (Kayes et al., 2023). I also have a bias toward micromanagement, and I often view attention to detail as an extension of micromanagement. However, I have learned that the two can be mutually exclusive and that I can be attentive to detail but not micromanage.
I also learned that I need to strengthen my adaptability. The world is continuously changing, as are the circumstances regulating leadership. I realized that I could be stuck in my ways and need to learn how to better manage myself and my emotions (Macfarlane & Carson, 2023). I learned the need to better adapt to changing situations, which I need to strengthen.
Development Plan to Work on These Behaviors
One of the steps I aim to take to improve these behaviors is reading. I realize that change is often based on a knowledge base (Kayes et al., 2023). I need to equip myself with the knowledge of how to expect quality and not micromanage. I also need to read about leadership and adaptability. I am currently reading Leaders Eat Last: Why Some Teams Pull Together, and Others Don't by Simon Sinek, which has helped me explore these themes. I have also begun practicing mindful behaviors, which remind me of the behaviors I need to work on. I have placed small reminders in my room and workspace of why I need to work on these elements to ensure I am a better leader.
