Personal change project: reduce mobile dependence

1. Describe your own words one or two things you would like to change about yourself and why? What about this change is essential to you? Why?

The thing I would like to change about myself is to reduce mobile dependence. In the last recent years, I have realized that mobile phone use, mainly social media Apps, has been consuming and wasting a lot of my time. I could be using this time to do important stuff like meeting friends for a face to face talk, thorough reading for my exams, doing personal cleaning, and spending time together with my family members', among other significant duties. I want to reduce the mobile dependence in myself to make sure that I devote much of my time to my academic work and ultimately attain desirable grades (Fu and Guo., 2020).

2. Imagine you are successful at making this change? What will be different?

I can free up enough time to do my classwork assignments and read for my semester examination. Moreover, I can also engage in face-to-face conversations with my friends and family members without mobile phone distraction, which I have come to learn that it is healthy for my mind and general well-being.

3. What is the current state and the desired state of the issue or change?

Current state

Future state

· I waste 6 hours every day on my mobile phone.

· Concentration difficulties

· Lack of face to face communication

· I ultimately reduce the use of mobile phones to only 1 hour a day.

· Focus more on my health and general well-being

· Engage on a face to face conversations

4. Analysis of what needs to happen to bring you from the current to the future state? And when?

To bring me from the current to the future state, I will be obligated to continue with the same routine of using my phone for only one hour a day, whether in school or on holiday. By doing this, it will create a fixed pattern in my mind that will enhance self-drive.

4.1. What changes do you need to make in your life/routines/behaviors? And how does that look like?

I will need to switch off my phone for quite some hours in a day and have solo time with myself as a way of limiting myself from wasting my time on it. I will also have to download software applications to lock up the mobile Apps that I find to be consuming much of time (Yang et al., 2019).

4.2. What gets in the way of these changes, and how will you address that?

I' am often tempted to respond to pop up notifications while doing my classwork assignments. I will address that by ensuring that I lock up all my mobile applications while doing my tasks that might require internet research.

4.3. What or who can support you to make this change and how?

To ultimately achieve this change, I will create a weekly timetable that will guide me on what I will be doing at a particular time of the day. Additionally, I will also rely on total self-discipline regarding my mobile phone use to avoid unnecessary waste of my time.
