Skill Builder Activity - Your Own Personal Leadership Brand Statement

A personal brand statements helps clarify who you are (and want to be) as well as the impact

that you want to make with your life and leadership. The more clear and consistent you are, the

more influential your leadership brand can be. Your brand becomes what people recall when

they think of you. Therefore, you need to define it well, promote it enthusiastically, and live it

out as fundamental to gaining and influencing followers.

Use the following reflection guides to create some source ideas for developing your own Personal

Leadership Brand Statement:

Self-Portrait: What specific leadership strengths do you possess?

Leadership Style: What leadership style do you prefer?

Culture: What kind of working environment do you want to lead?

Future: What do you want to be the key piece or item in your leadership legacy?

After reflecting on the above guides, design a leadership brand statement using only two

sentences. The first sentence should focus on who you are. The second sentence should focus on

how you can serve others.

Here is a general template for writing your personal brand statement:

“I want to be known for being _________________ so I can ___________________.”

Examples:

 I want to be known for being passionate about finding the hidden potential in people so

I can challenge others to accomplish tasks beyond their expectations.

 I want to be known for being innovative, respectful, and supportive so I can deliver

results for my employer, colleagues, and work teams.
