Dr. Jeff,
I am writing to you seeking permission to conduct applied research in education at James Monroe High School. The research is crucial for the partial fulfillment of my doctoral study program, which I am currently undertaking at Liberty University. The study aims to provide recommendations for solving equity gaps at James Monroe High School, Virginia. The research comes after I discovered that only 28% of the students from low-income and underserved communities at James Monroe High School were ready for college compared to the state average of 84% for all students. The pattern is worrying and needs an urgent solution.
The central question is how can the gaps in college readiness between students from low-income and underserved communities and those from wealthy and majority groups be eliminated? In addressing the central question, I will need different forms of data. One type of data I will require regards demographic. Demographic data will help me with the student enrollment ratio and the factors that impact it. Secondly, I will need program data that indicates the school curriculum and how the educators train the students. Lastly, I will need achievement data detailing learners' overall and individual subject performances. Performance data will help in proving the stated problem and developing solutions. I intend to begin conducting the research at the school from (put date) to (put date).
Yours Sincerely,
